as a glasses wearer for nearly 30 years i think i have worked out what has happened.
had them since year 5......now end of year 7..........well his prescription has probably changed, fixed many times before, he is a kid and if he is a permanant wearer they can get bent or damaged, 2 years wear on a child is going to wreck the glasses anyway.
nhs specs would be a definite no-no, back in my day they were the huge black ones that made every kid look like a relative of roland from grange hill, now the range has increased but its hardly great, they probably tried to go the nhs route, realised they couldnt and now want a contribution.
probably needs a lens thinning down or something, i am a permanant wearer and because i have a large prescription in one eye and barely anything on the other one i have to have them thinned down, otherwise they look odd both on my face and off itWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -

in the eyes of the kid's parentsNHS seemed just fine before this happened.
trust me unless nhs specs have had a style makeover, or the kid has the slightest prescription ever, which i doubt as without his specs he couldnt do his work, then they wont be standard price.
i'll find a pic later and we can ask who would make their kid wear nhs specsWho remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?0 -
My 7 year old cousin got some lovely glasses on the NHS. Nice purple modern style ones, I would have worn them myself!
I on the other hand got my glasses from selectspecs for £11.50 and that was with shipping! And no one even realised they were cheap, thought they were designer lol.
And I would not pay!:j0 -

this was discussed earlier in the thread. Opinion amongst parents AND children has generally been that very nice, free glasses are available nowadays....... nothing like what used to be available a few years ago0 -

Oh my god what awful glasses, you didn't even need to tell me they are NHS I could guess from the awfulness...
Actually they look like any other pair of glasses, I wouldn't even think twice about it and I do wear glasses so have seen many frames over the years.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

I hate people who haven't a clue, yet still have an opinion on everything.split_second wrote: »i'll find a pic later and we can ask who would make their kid wear nhs specs
My kids wear NHS glasses and you wouldn't know. ATM my DD is wearing some Mr Men glasses I think, that she picked. So hardly what you have in mind.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Nice hair btw.
Are those really NHS glasses? I expected them to be an inch thick all around and brown. Oh, hang on, I've just been thinking about 1972.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
