Neighbours Smoke

There are a number of reasons why people start but the main reason they continue is addiction. It's a helluva thing to try and stop.
Tell me about it! I've lost count of the number of times I have quit, with varying degrees of success. The most succesful time being when my eldest neice asked me to quit - I managed 18 months smoke free then.
Have been getting along quite nicely having cut down dramatically though. But.....I have another dream which is now more important, and so the smoking has to be kicked! Full stop!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Yay baby norris's!
Nah stoppings for quitters and i aint no quitter!
Until maybe i plan something like sprogs0 -
They'll be baby Morris's. Yes, I did manage to find and fall in love with a man who's surname is almost identical to my own! lol
Mmmm, I'm not quitting then. I am merely redirecting my focus and funds to something more positive.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Smokers should just stop smoking. That would cure a lot of problems! If you don't want to know my opinion, don't ask for it!0

It would create a lot too.
Many people would lose their jobs for a start, both nationally and internationally, including people who work for haulage firms who transport the products, people who work in advertising industries and even the people who work in anti-smoking promotion!
Currently, British smokers pay more in taxation than the estimated costs of treating smoking related illness. Where will the money come from to make up the difference if smokers just stop?
The average small non-chain newsagents second highest selling category of items is tobacco products (behind newspapers) so their income and livelihood would be in jeopardy which also has wider implications for the community if their local shop has to shut down.
In Scotland, 700 pubs and clubs shut down in the five years following the public smoking ban, in part at least to the fact that numerous customers, especially in the harsh economic climate, are no longer willing to overpay for alcohol if they cannot smoke too.0 -
Without doing any research at all: every young person I talk to now is involved in drug taking in some way, with few exceptions. I've seen so many whose lives have been ruined by the highly addictive properties of the harder drugs. I know alcohol is a problem for every generation but I've never seen alcohol issues be as prevalent as drugs. Bear in mind I live in a fairly rural (or at least semi-urban) environment.
I hate sounding like my father's generation but that's how it appears to me. Would you concur? Where's the Weegie when you need him?
I don't necessarily think a number of people doing something makes it a bad thing. Regardless of what it is there will always be people who abuse things as well, I don't think that's a reason to ban it as such.0 -

Perhaps not but most (if not all) the drugs I'm referring to would be banned in any case.0
