I thought you had to have at least X days insurance to get tax anyway? (as in some PO staff will refuse to issue a disc if you don't)

I thought the same, either 14 days mot or ins???anyone
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    No.

You need insurance (and MOT) that is valid on the day the tax starts, that's all.

Not sure whether you are right or not, but I can say I have heard of the PO refusing to tax cars in those circumstances.

Perhaps the PO staff are like many of these poster's, from those who know the law, those who think they know the law, and those who have an opinion on how it ought to be.

QUENTIN IS CORRECT ABOUT THE INSURANCE AND MOT,
    TAKEN FROM THE DIRECTGOV WEBSITE.

Insurance cover needed to tax your vehicle

In order to tax your vehicle, you must have insurance cover that:
    • covers you against third party claims for death or injury and damage to property caused by using the vehicle
    • covers your use of the vehicle for taxing purposes
    • is valid on the day the tax disc comes into force
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

Thanks, but you may still end up in arguments at some PO though.

I think you are right, I don't mean in law but how some PO staff interpret their guidelines;)
