    All the info on

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Motorinsurance/DG_186696

    is

"What will happen if your vehicle doesn't have insurance

If a vehicle does not have insurance, the registered keeper of it could:
    • receive a fixed penalty of £100
    • have their vehicle wheel-clamped, impounded, or destroyed
    • face a court prosecution, with a possible maximum penalty of £1000
An Insurance Advisory Letter (IAL) will be sent to inform the registered keeper of a vehicle that appears to have no insurance. It advises the keeper what actions to take to avoid receiving a Fixed Penalty Notice."

    Could go either way.

No. It cannot go "either way".

It will follow a one way route!

The IAL will give you the opportunity to put matters right.

If you ignore it, then a £100 FPN is the next stage.

Just wondering if anyone can help please.

Im looking to sell my car so have left it taxed on my dad's driveway.

The tax runs out at the end of the month but my dad wants to use the car for a few weeks qas he is having problems with his own car, he is covered 3rd party on his own insurance.

Can i re-new the tax disc without having insurance of my own?

    Thanks

The vehicle needs to be insured with a policy in force on that vehicle.

Your dad needs to make sure that driving the car under "any other vehicle" on his policy doesn't have a requirement that the car is insured in its own right i.e there has to be a policy with that vehicle registration on it. Many, if not most now require the vehicle to have an insurance policy in force on it.

If he gets stopped by ANPR which he will with it having no insurance on it, if it then transpires that is a requirement then he will be done for driving with no insurance and you for allowing the vehicle to be driven uninsured.

Thats the latest i found. Not yet but soon... Why do some people say it will only affect law abiding drivers? HOW?

Will not affect illegal drivers. Well it will make it harder for them. Wont be able to insure for one day then tax it and drive
around using 3rd party cover excuse.

I dont see the problem. Its free to SORN.

it doesnt matter when it starts as your dad will not be covered by his own insurance if the car is an uninsured vehicle

That was the same link I put up 4 posts ago.
It's in force now, but has an amnesty for a few weeks.
3rd party cover is fine. It's valid insurance, it'll pay out if they hit you.
It's the ones with no tax mot or insurance it won't affect.

    No.

Previously you have embarked on this type of nonsensical and troublemaking argument when you have been corrected with chapter and verse but not had the courtesy to reply, never mind stand corrected.
