Umm why do some people always bring up The Land Before Childcare Tax Credits - the government ruined childcare for low earners in this country when friends/family were no longer allowed to look after each other's kids for token amounts. In the seventies my mum worked full time and childcare costs didn't matter; her friend looked after us (3 kids) and my mum did the same for her friend (5 kids) during the evenings and weekends very little money crossed hands. Our two families felt related, my mum knew we were safe and it cost next to nothing to organise we even ate together. Most of the families we grew up with had similar arrangements. If you tried this now OFSTED and SS would come down on it like a ton of bricks.
OP you have my sympathy. Could you try to renegotiate with tax credits? You could try to get welfare rights/CAB to support you with that. Good luck.0 -
I totally understand your dilemma, but wouldn't you be better off emotionally struggling for a couple of month but then be done for good with it. The debt won't go away, so you might as well get over it very quickly.. You say you are able to pay the bills, you just have little left over. It's not the end of world, just get over it and then you will be at peace of mind.0

What rubbish, after the two police women in the press a few years ago things changed and anyone can look after anyones kids as they still did before, during and after that news story.
Whats wrong with expecting people to pay for their own childcare like everything else in life or do you think its ok to work for the same/less than you pay childcare?
The goverment didnt ruin childcare for anyone, tax credits did.0
