    Pah to poorly arms :(

And :rotfl: to sounding like a pole dancer! :D

Sadly I don't get a Thomas Moore hat - that's the only REAL reason I did a phd in the first place :D But where I am you just get a normal mortar board, but covered in velvet. Not half so cheery!

And what on EARTH kind of colour goes with manky orangey-red???

Cheri - think our robes are very light polyester type material :rotfl:

Best order mine actually, the deadline is Monday - remind me to do it tomorrow!

Had a lovely day at the WI, then ambling round a fair thing, handing out leaflets and eating more cake, then visiting a friend in hospital, and now back home again <yawn>

OMG, they are the only reason I would consider one. (I call them 'squishy hats' ;) ). I was gutted not to get a mortar board at my graduation as well: I went to one of the only unis that doesn't give you one - we just had them for pictures :(

Didn't you even get to wear one in the ceremony??

Mind you, I hate the things, didn't realise I'd have to wear a phd one too - I nearly dropped out! :D :rotfl: :rotfl:

No - just for the pics. :(

I want a squishy velvet hat. It would be cheaper to buy one, but it would not have quite the same meaning if I did. :p

Nope: Yorkshire. Although if I think you are refering to where you are refering to, Durham is, to the best of my knowledge, the only other university in the country that has a similar policy, and for the same reason. (Kudos for taking the stand, but there were a few pictures I had planned involving mortar-board throwing! ;) )

The whole graduation thing is utterly ridiculous anyway :D Yes to marking the occasion - utter nonsense to robes and hats, and good on them for making a stand. However, since we have to join in, might as well do it with good humour :D

I'm spring cleaning today  Goodness knows why, just woke up in the mood :D Very slowly mind you, just ambling round :) Have washed the front door - I suppose that counts :rotfl: and stripped the bed and put the washing on, and cleared out a couple of drawers, and created 3 bags of stuff to go upstairs :rotfl: Quite enjoying myself - partly cos I've not said 'I'm going to do ALL of this room before I stop' - just doing one little thing at a time...

And have avoided the computer so far - suspect that has helped :rotfl:

However, just popped on to hire silly robes, and to order a new door :D

Silly hat and gown ordered :T :T :T

Checked out the price of buying it - £125 for the hat, £95 for the hood, and £367 for the gown

Needless to say, I've hired mine :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Crikey, I would be hiring at that price too!

No, not Durham. It was Newcastle, something about they threw their mortar boards in the Tyne in protest about another Uni being allowed if I remember rightly.

I can't believe it was 4 years ago, but we did 3 graduation ceremonies in 3 weeks (Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds Met) and they were all very different but thoroughly enjoyable.
