If the tyre is that bad then it may well be a suspension problem or wheel bearing or something. I would take it to a proper garage rather than just a tyre place. Cars are a bit like people though - it's not always obvious what is actually wrong :(

Good point VL. My experience of Kwik fit is that they will have the experience to tell you that if that is what they think the problem is. I thought that they couldnt fit a tyre without tracking it. Maybe I am wrong.

That sounds like total bliss with floaty music and everything.

Thanks folks. I'm actually booked into the proper garage on Tuesday to have it sorted out - but I wanted to replace the tyre tomorrow morning just in case we have another need-to-go-to-A&E fiasco or something before Tuesday... :p:D

Lovely friend has just left, and I can now play a cheery tune on the clarinet :D:D:D Squizz will be impressed when she finds out :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I'm impressed myself :D
  • Hiya Daff :hello:, longtime lurker, just delurking to agree with vl.
I put brand new tyres on the car on New Year's eve and in May I noticed out of the blue that something shiny seemed to be stuck to the tyre. Turns out both front tyres were down to the metal!!
I was shocked that I'd been driving it like that, but angry that they had only lasted 5 months! I hadn't realised the damage bad tracking can cause.
The garage looked at the car and the tracking was way out, it's only done during tyre change if you ask (and pay for it), which I hadn't. I was also told to get the tracking rechecked 2 or 3 weeks later to see if the tracking had been affected by a suspension problem (in which case the tracking would be out again), luckily the car was fine.
Hope you get your car sorted without too much expense (does it still have the guinea pigs?) and enjoy tootling with the clarinet. This has encouraged me to have a rummage in the loft and find my recorders tomorrow. Might have to find some lonely hill to play on though as it's been a while.:)

    It's only a game

  • Hi there Cheery and everyone
I have just been given a fantastic bag full of cooking apples :j:j:j and i thought i'd pop here for some advice - i don't have the room to freeze any cakes or anything at the moment and we have plenty of cake and treats already :o i wondered if i'd be ok popping the apples and sugar in a pan and then once cooked and cooled freezing it up ready to use as i could fit smaller bags in the freezer :)

No problem with that DFW, I see I don't have to suggest you freeze them in suitable portions.. You don't really need to add the sugar at this stage either. Just undercook them as you will be reheating them later. 3 minutes will do them fine.

I've just had a similar situation and turned some of mine into Apple Chutney which will go down well in the winter and as gifts - folk love homemade!
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?
  • Ergh to the hamster car - yay to flute playing - hope you have fun :)

Working at home today and REALLY struggling to get on - always something else that *needs* doing :( All my fault of course, but one little chore turns into 15, and then someone (random member of the public) stopped me in the street to tell me how bald my front tyre was.

You know, the one I had replaced at the end of April. And then again (along with the other front one) after the tracking had been 'fixed'  To say I'm not impressed is an absolute understatement, that garage, much as I like the bloke, has overstepped it this time and I won't be going back (unless it's to slap a bill for several rounds of new !!!!in tyres on their desk!)

Times like this I'd rather be in the bloody office!

DDFW - I'm sure it's fine to freeze stewed apples! No use coming in here to ask about quantities though - I'm a chuck-it-in-the-pan-and-see kind of a girl :p
    And hooray for flutes! :j :j :j

Oh Cheery ((hugs)) - i know the frustration of car / garage problems and what also annoys me is the amount of time i waste to-ing and fro-ing to the place. Even when it has been booked in for 9am when i ring at lunchtime to see how its going on it hasn't been looked at :o Now, i like you am changing garages - the one i have been recommended (which is always a good sign :)) is also much more local :T - Much as i prefer secondhand / pre-owned things i now feel a car is the one thing i would look at getting new next time (if i had the money :rotfl:) - just because of the expense and upset of things going wrong so often on the cars i've bought - maybe i've just been unlucky :o

In more cheery news i'm still looking at flutes :D not looking at paying alot as i don't play the flute as yet

Thanks for that so much tricia :) - i had looked it up on the internet and seen the 2 options of sugar before or just the apples and didn't know what would work best. I will do this shortly :) I think as well if i don't use sugar now then i can make chutneys later like you say :D Ooh a happy preparing day :T

Though i may go back to bed for a little snooze first ;)

Hope everyone has a lovely saturday :D

    snooze sounds lovely! :T :T Hooray for more flutes :D :j :j :j :j

Thanks for all the car advice. Will get them to do whatever to sort it out, and as I say, it's at the proper garage on Tuesday, so hopefully that'll be it. It's been much more trouble than it's worth, this bl**dy car!

Other than that, sun's shining, and we're off to the local 'alternative village show' today - presumably alternative because we live in a city rather than a village :rotfl: :rotfl: Still got veg judging competitions though, and best fancy dress :D

Well, managed to miss the alternative village show sadly due to a daft combination of circumstances and me not realising it was only the morning and not all day :(

Not to worry. Tyre changed - and they had a look at it. The only thing wrong was the tracking - 17mm out     So either they didn't do it at all last time, or they did it so badly that they might as well not have done it at all. They've had their last chance I tell you! £80 (for one tyre and sorting out the tracking), but the good news is they've had a look and there's nothing else wrong with it, just the tracking, so it doesn't need to go to the other garage on Tuesday :T :T :T (must remember to cancel!)

While I was waiting I popped to one of my favourite cafes for tea and toast. Brought me HUGE tea, and lovely proper bread and a pot of organic jam. Jam had a bit of mould in, just where someone had used the butter knife and put back in the jar, I didn't think anything of it, just scooped it out onto plate and used the non-mouldy bits :D Sat and read the paper, and paid (not very MSE at £3.30 for tea and toast, but still!). Walked off down the road, and a very apologetic cafe man hurtled down the street after me, saying 'I didn't know about the jam! I'm so sorry! Have your money back!' I told him it was fine, of course, he could keep it, it was only a bit of mould, but he said 'absolutely not!' thrust it at me, and ran away before I could object any more :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Rest of the day not been very productive really! About to pop to the other shops for some food and a very quick charity shop amble, and put some posters up, then Mr Daffs is out tonight so I shall be doing something to tackle the mad state this house is in, and perhaps having a go at the fence.

    And playing some clarinet tunes, of course, I' getting better already! :T :T :T :T :T :D

Sorry you missed the alternative village show - I guess you know for next year :) and what a lovely cafe man!

It *does* sound like you know what the prob is with the car/tyre - I have no knowledge whatsoever, so I kept quiet :D someone on here always knows :)
