Vent: If you want the picture to be 3D, switch the glasses on!

Options
As someone who sells TVs, it is very frustrating when I'm serving somebody and see people shamble up to the 3D TVs, put the glasses on, and go "Oh, it doesn't work."

How hard is it to use your eyes and notice that the glasses are "Active" not passive - it says so on the signs.

The price of the glasses also shows that they obviously do something.

How about the battery compartment and the "ON" button? No? Is that too obvious?

It's mind boggling. The first time I ever saw active glasses before I knew exactly how they worked, I looked at them, felt the weight and knew they must have some technology in them. I found the power switch, put them on my face and pressed the button.

Bingo! The image became 3D.

Not so for the geniuses who parade through my shop. Even when I tell them there's power switch, they can't find it (usually because they're holding them by said switch), or when they do find it, they press the button before putting the glasses on, then press it again to switch them off, THEN put the glasses on.

Never mind the twits who go up to a TV showing a 2D image and wonder why it doesn't look 3D. I mean, come on, if there is only one sharp image on the screen, of COURSE it's not 3D, and no, you don't have to watch a 3D tv in 3D all the time. What would be the point of that?

And don't take Sony glasses or Samsung glasses to a panasonic TV, of course they won't work. Do you really think they would charge so much for a pair of glasses if you could use any old 3D glasses with them?

And while I'm ranting, is it not obvious when something is called a "DVD recorder," it will also PLAY DVDs? Did your VIDEO RECORDER not play videos? Of course, if something records, it stands to reason that it plays... how do you think it plays back the recordings you've made?

A blue ray PLAYER on the other hand will not RECORD because the word recorder is not present in its name. And yes, it will play CDs and DVDs, just like it says on the bloody specification card!

Freeview IS digital. All TVs have freeview tuners have and have had for over a year, why on earth would I sell a TV that's useless in most of the country?

If youre going to moan about black borders on your picture in one breath, why ask me for a square TV in the next? You're going to get borders again!

HD ready does NOT mean the tv has an hd tuner, nor does Full HD. If the tv has an HD tuner it will say so. If you're that worried about resolutions, LOOK at the resolution of the screen in the specification.

And don't ring me up if the 100hz tv you bought is displaying a message in the top left when you change the channel stating the resolution of the feed and "50hz" because you don't understand broadcast technology, and even if I do explain to you why that is, you still won't understand.

Phew that felt good.....only an hour until I go to work *sob*.

I can sympathise with most of your gripes but this one is your (or the industry's) own problem.

Of course if you say something is 'ready' for HD people will expect it to display HD when the channels arrive. My toaster is 'HD ready' in that it will still work when HD arrives. You'd need to add a TV if you want to see HD pictures, though. :D

Well, if you will sell things that trumpet technology that is incomprehensible to the general public you only have yourself to blame if they want it explained. :rotfl:

If a TV is going to display messages that evidently confuse users then it would be a good idea to make sure you can explain the message (or disable it).

And there was me thinking that HDTV was broadcast at frequencies in the order of Ghz. :)

DTT (and, indeed, analogue), is transmitted on UHF TV channels which are in the range: 470-698 MHz.

DSat is transmitted at GHz frequencies.

But what OP is talking about is screen refresh rate which is a completely different things and a dramatically lower frequency.

OP- was this all tongue in cheek?? What may seem simple to you is not for others. I went through hell getting my mother used to her mobile phone and then her computer. And she is not thick. We are not all technically minded.
Just be thankful that folks need a salesperson's help as they would just order things through catalogue shops, phone or online. Well- maybe not online:rotfl:

I'd like to rant about everything being changed to 3D. 3D TV's 3D Nintendos, 3D Phones. Seriously who needs 3D all the time? Am I one of the few people that don't duck when watching something 3D in a cinema.

3D does nothing for me in the cinema. Maybe because, as a specs wearer, the 3D glasses are not the optimum distance to work correctly and tend to give a slight tunnel vision effect due to the distance from the eye.

    Why no clip-ons?
