see i love my boy with longer hair and he pleads with me to get it cut - i think it looks younger and well chavvier how he has it short wiht shaved sides and too much gel!

I can cope with the long hair, i can cope with the short hair, it's the short-trying-to-grow-it-long stage.
You know like when the hair is just coming over the ears but sticks out, also the cut he had, now with the regrowth his hair points in front of his ears (spok like) :rotfl:
He plays the guitar and is going through the predictable "wanna be a rock god" senario, not only wanting to grow hair out but dye it black, ozzy osborne is good apparently along with zak wilde :D.

Nope, I would't allow my son, but that's because I hate piercings on young boys!

Honestly I would think a 12 year old girl was too young to have pierced ears, let alone a 12 year old boy. I think piercing on either gender before about 16 look chavvy, but I'm an old fashioned uptight prude.

No doubt I will have to chill out a bit when my two get a bit older, but for now, its a no from me.

TBH in this area, the only boys with piercings (or indeed girls below about 10 with piercings) come from the troublemaking rough families. Its not the norm for children to have piercings here and they would have very negative associations. I'm sure that varies from one part of the country to another, though.

You are me! I feel the same, makes me very unpopular with my daughters!

Don't know whether its still the case now but when I was a student (animal sciences) piercings were allowed but frowned upon for safety and hygiene. on horses courses they had to be elastoplasted over if left in, and only studs allowed.

Now, as an occasional employer with animals looking to employ full time in the future I would prefer (and if I'm allowed to then I will require) no earings in the work place.

well, I am not sure why the horses would object - or that health and safety would be an issue. Been puzzling this for a few minutes.........my OH had a little herd of horses and quite honestly I really dont see what my wearing earrings would have a bearing on either looking after them, riding them or just having a bit of fun and messing about with them. none of them had a ear fetish, though one did like to snuffle your hair. another one had a boob fetish and yet another had a pocket fetish. the others just wanted their treats!
I dont get why peirced ears are not H & S around horses!

I would have no problem with it as long as it was just an earring hole and not one of those whacking great holes you can stick your finger through!
I would make him wait a reasonable amount of time to make sure it wasn't just a fad he was going through.

I personally think it is the type of earring/s worn by both girls and boys that make them look like chavs, not the fact they have pierced ears.
  • My mum forbade me from piercing my ears in my teens, saying "once you're 18 you can do what you like." Obviously, once I was 18, I pierced my navel twice, tongue, lip, ears, nose, nipple...she went NUTS! :rotfl::rotfl: I had 13 piercings at my peak; seven now, but I do wonder whether they'd have been so appealing had I been allowed earlier. (I should point out that I started piercing just before it was mainstream- I was the first person in my Uni to have a tongue piercing for example) (Such a rebel. Sigh)

    ....

I had flesh tunnels, though not huge. ("Ooooh, your earrings look like you've got a hole right through your ear!") (Ummm, duh, it's an earring.) I took out the tunnel, had a wierd, flabby earlobe for a while and the lobe closed up around a normal earring.

At 13 I'd let either of mine have their ears done, but they'd wear studs for school. I think I may let them save up to have it done properly too ;).
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

Ear piercing on a young boy just screams out chav and poverty to me, sorry. I think it looks awful and cheap.

That's unfair. It doesn't necessarily indicate being a chav and poor, it can also indicate homosexuality.

I would let mine. He's only 3, so a long way to go. It can look very naff, but 12 year olds often have their ideas about dressing .

Ban him now from a minor thing, and he may end up getting more permanent things done without your consent (tattoos).

I allowed my son to have his ear pierced when he was 13, it was just a passing phase he soon grew out of it and let it close up.
