Am I being thick? Is the purpose of all the above to get the recovery disk onto a cd? If so do I need to save it onto my laptop as I now have it on disk. If I try to save it any other way this is what comes up from my downloads box:-
open containing folder
Go to download page
copy download link
select all
remove from list
If I double click it only gives me the option to burn a disc.
If I go back to the original link it does not give an option to save only to download.
Sorry but I must have hit something to make the type go weirdSelf Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
Just tried starting up again and this comes up.
!!0xc01a001d!! 37364/92287 (Registry\Machine\Components|DerivedData...). It does not move past this.
If I try safe mode it does not move past the Drivers and if I try system repair it does nothing after 3 hours.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
what driver does it hang on in safe mode?
do you need any data from the hard disk!!

I don't know which Driver. It just seemed to be a page full of drivers. Yes I would like things from my hard disk .Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

the last driver may be relevant to the problem
If no F8 options work - Although it can be done for free with boot discs, I'd suggest buying a usb hard disk caddy available for around £4 to get your data, then reinstall vista either from factory restore partition if it has one, or disc.
It's not clear whether you have created a bootable recovery disc or not, you may be able to get it working from that if created properly (assuming the machine came with no discs?). Have you tried booting from it?
portable 500GB usb hard disks cost around £40, and blank dvd's for 10p or so, worthwhile spending money on these for backup in future.!!

It doesn't sound like the OP has actually downloaded, saved and burned the .ISO file yet.
joyful, when you click the link to download the recovery disk image, choose Save and save it to the desktop (so you can see it without having to go hunting for it). Then, burn it to DVD, but as it's an .ISO file, as advised above, you need to use a burning prog which will burn .ISO files (not all of them do). Imgburn is good for this. MAke sure you set it to burn an image file, and select the file you just downloaded.
Note:- you should NOT be double-clicking on the .ISO file......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I did get the Vista Recovery on CD but the laptop is not seeing it on booting up.
Thanks everyone for your help but I am admitting defeat and passing it to someone who knows what they are doing- I hope.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -
I could be wrong, but think vista disks need to be on DVD, not CD. Can you re0burn to DVD ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Which browser are you using to download the image? Use Internet Explorer.0

Just used IE and burned to DVD. The faulty Laptop did not see it. Only option again was to start normally or system repair so that's it not going to shut down again.:mad:Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
