    Yeah they do

    But

HGV's run on diesel which is far less likely to set anything on fire due to it's nature

Also HGV's usually take on board 2-300 litres at a time

Why not have it on all diesel pumps then

You don't have the facility on any normal self-service forecourts because of the possibility of vandals snatching a nozzle from a fuelling vehicle and spraying members of the public or letting the fuel flow across the forecourt.

Messy and nasty if it's diesel, downright dangerous if it's petrol - and another reason why the trigger should not be jammed open with a filler cap.

I would rather use the "latch on" I seem to spend ages at pumps putting in about £100 worth a week (2 visits)

    If you dont care...why reply

Everyone prepays in the USA and everyone uses the clip to keep the trigger open, so why isnt it allowed here again? I have never seen ant problems with it in the US and cant remember having problems with them here in the past

Static electricity sparks can and do ignite petrol vapours (although rare). The risk of static igniting a fire is higher when the motorist re-enters the car whilst the petrol is still being pumped. Currently if you left your wallet/handbag in the car you'd just wait until you'd filled the car then you'd get the wallet/handbag. However, with a lockable nozzle trigger you could just get into the car, build up a nice static charge, go to take the nozzle out and a spark ignites the fumes.

If this happened in the UK the tabloid press would go mental, the 'victim' would sue, the petrol station owners would get lots of bad PR and then the trigger locks would need to be removed. So all in all it's not worth the hassle.

Oh and here some US news articles about this (we don't see this sort of article in the UK because of the fuel pumps we have).

That would not get him extra petrol.

The feed pipe to the nozzle is always full. The hose is sealed from inside the nozzle when the pump stops issuing fuel, so you can't ever drain the hose.

If that was not the case, then the next customer would get short measure.

The pump manufacturer would not get the necessary licences to market the pump in the UK if it could be manipulated by the public or the retailer in any way to dispense short measure.

I don't understand why I still try to get to the nearest £ when I have a 5p off a litre voucher. :o

Anyway a lot of garages have a penny pot, so if you go over by a penny or 2 and you don't have change you can take one. Never seen on in a Tesco forecourt though.
