Not long filled up at the refurbished Tesco Extra in Gillingham, Kent.

The new pumps have additional buttons which allow you to select to pump in a fixed amount of fuel by litres or by rounded £'s.

Will help those who hate going a penny over. :D

That's such a simple idea I'm genuinely amazed it's taken this long to be introduced. :)

It's about time. They've had these in the USA for YEARS!!!
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Hmmm, I know petrol costs a lot.... But this is only going to help the £3 every single f**king day drivers.

Me? Wait for the £3 a day driver to do their weekly shop before paying for their 2 litres of petrol, I drive up to the pump, I open the fuel cap, insert the nossle, jam fuel cap into the handle, stand back and wait for the click, close fuel cap, go pay, don't come back for another 3 weeks.

And before ya'll moan about the jamming of the handle, if you look at most pumps the handle has a metal loop on it, this is used in other countries to lock the handle open, but in the UK we disable it. The only pumps where this device isn't removed is the Diesel pumps for trucks.

So another "Back to the Future" experiment.

Asda had these 30 years ago - I wonder if we'll go back to having to choose 2,3,4 or 5 star soon too!

I reckon I save money by not sitting there for 20mins everyday with the engine running, waiting for ejit in front to finish their coffee/donut and do all their shopping before they pay for the £3 worth of fuel.

Pumps that had pre-programmed fills were around in the 1960's. The idea just never got transcribed into the digital age for some reason.

Highly dangerous to jam the nozzle open with your filler cap - if the auto-cutout fails to work, you spray petrol everywhere - and try pulling the cap out of the trigger guard while you're being drenched in petrol. That's why the facility is not allowed here.

If the forecourt operator saw you do that he would kill the feed to the pump immediately. Hope you don't do it while you're still smoking.

When I pay by cash, I hate getting change so always try to get it to the nearest pound. The meter is so fast that you cant help getting a little buzz of satisfaction when you get it right on the button.

Mind you, last time I went to a filling station I was mortified when the woman at the pay desk asked me for twelve pounds AND A PENNY. She let me off with the penny, God bless her, but I felt dead inadequate.
