  • I'm sure that you would find out the costs involved before getting work carried out on your house or car, so why wait until after PF have carried out a service before questioning the cost?

But I knew the costs first, the price was agreed before hand and I knew customs would put a price on it also. Thats like the garage doing a service, oil/plugs/air filter change for £80 then slapping a extra £10 on because the plugs were an !!!! to get to and they will with hold your car until you pay.

so how did you envisage that money getting to customs?

I'm not bothered about the custom charges, its the handling fees from parcel force and how they make money from profiterring which bothers me.

Although I don't particulalrly like Parcel Force for various other reasons (see my other posts), the fee they charge for handling the customs charges is actually quite reasonable for the amount of work involved. I wasn't aware of what goes into clearing goods until I looked into it and it is done a lot quicker when Parcel Force (or any other courier) handles it for you, than you doing it yourself.

You are quite within your rights to handle the clearance process yourself and then you would not have to pay Parcel Force (or any other courier) the £8/£13 fee. But your goods would take longer to arrive and you would have a fair amount of paperwork to deal with. There are a lot of things wrong with Parcel Force but their clearance fees are certainly not charged for nothing.

right.so that doesnt answer my question
how do you see the money getting from you to HMRC
it seems you have done nothing about it yet assume someone will take care of it for you
  • I would of been happy to pay the £8 fee, will remember for next time.
Also take into account that I paid express delivery but still had to pick it up from the main depot, a 50 mile round trip so costs and time.

Thats one issue that irks me about how [STRIKE]quickly[/STRIKE] slowly PF get the letters out to you to tell you how much you owe! But thats another discussion in another thread!

If HMRC contacted me themselves, then I would of sorted it out, I know now that I could of notified them in advance to dodge the fees before Parcel force held my package for ransom.

Thats not how it works unfortunately. If HMRC had to provide extra staff to contact all the recipients of parcels then that would have to be paid for somehow so there would be a 'HMRC clearance fee' to pay instead of Parcel Force.

So I have to pay someone £8 to make a bank transfer, which I guess is done in bulk, guess they get a invoice with say 1000 payments on a day, 1 payment combined £8000 for clicking on send ain't to bad going really is it. Then I have to go and collect it like I said earlier., talk about half a job.
