Dragging this thread up again. I've had a look at some of the options

    Train
Cost £323 a month (including Hull bus)
Only one viable service morning/evening though.
    Time 1h 36m

    Car
Cost £392 a month petrol (plus parking)
    Time 1h 20m

    Car part/train part
    Cost £360 (+ parking??)
    Time 1h 30m
Only one viable service from suggested station

All costs and times are, obviously, approximate.

Convenience wise the car wins but when you add on any parking charges and time added on for congestion it seems less appealing.

The train and train/car combo are cheaper but, with such a limited window for trains, they also look less appealing.

Hmmm....back to the drawing board. :(

    car share?
    maybe?
someone might be doing the same run to leeds everyday and costs shared are costs halved
i used to share with someone i knew back in the 80's we saved lots of money until the day his audi 80 caught fire like most of them did:D

Oh yes, car sharing! Had a quick look at liftshare.com (picked at random) and it seems to show several people making the journey I'm considering. Might be a viable option.

    Hi westv

Personaly, i would'nt even contemplate driving. The ftpe service is on the whole, very reliable. Yes, theres only one train an hour, and takes a little under an hour, or just over an hour, depending which train you catch. I would advocate arriving in good time to catch your train, as they get pretty packed out, unless you fancy standing all the way to Leeds. Theres usualy only two carriages.

They also have buy in advance deals, and you could save over 50%, but it may work out cheaper in the long run to buy some sort of pass.

    Yep, thats right. Well, 6.00, 6.35, 7.33, 8.40, 9.48,10.38.........

It is a good service though. M62 at rush hour, no way.

I'm used to one train every two hours :rotfl:

Note - I'm sure many people are'nt aware of the conditions of carriage either, when you purchase your rail ticket, which agrees to transport you from a) to b), merely that. The rest is left to your own imagination. :)

It only needs one cancellation and I'm b.uggered - a plan B is essential so maybe I'll go by train normally but drive in if it's cancelled. In that case I'd need to drive to Hull station rather than hop on the bus. I've also looked into driving to Brough. Cheaper season ticket but outweighed by the cost of petrol. However, if I did that and I needed to implement "plan b" then I'd be that much closer to Leeds.

Depends on when you want to travel in the morning.

Looking on live departure boards, you have:

    Hull 0600 - Leeds 0700
    Hull 0637 - Leeds 0735
    Hull 0700 - Selby 0733 + Selby 0743 - Leeds 0819
    Hull 0737 - Leeds 0836

I doubt you would want departures later than that, so generally speaking, half-hourly in the morning

06:00 and 06:37 are too early. For the 06:00 I'd estimate I'd need to be on my way by 05:30 or so and for the 06:37 estimate of maybe 06:10. Assuming office hours of 9-5, the service home is 17:38 - estimate arrival back home 19:10 (?) so I could be looking at a 13 1/2 hour day. Not appealing at all.

I get the impression that you don't currently live in the area, yet are considering moving to Hull and commuting to Leeds.

I'm sure there's a good reason, but why not just move to Leeds? It's a much nicer place than Hull. :)
