Don't worry poorthrifty, just ignore another newbie telling you it's fraud when it categorically is NOT!

If you use coupons to make an offer of payment at the till and if Tesco choose to accept these coupons (without you buying the product) then THEY are the ones who could possibly be accused of fraud, not you. That is why coupons only say a wishy-washy phrase like 'please do not embarrass your retailer....' (on the 'customer' info) but on the 'retailer' info it says something like 'to accept these against any other product could constitute fraud'.

Personally I am not the least bit embarrassed now to hand over wads of coupons, altho' I only started to do so this year. To answer a few other questions:

    - out of date coupons will still scan (except Tesco logo ones)

    - coupons from Sainsburys/Somerfield/Asda mags do scan in Tesco against anything

    - coupons with Tesco logo on will NOT scan unless you buy the item so these are pointless to try with (e.g. the Sirco one etc., from the magazine).

    - to add to sterlinin's extensive list, I would also add that you can buy good coupons on eBay if you check that they are not internet prints, not store-specific and have a good couple of months' date to use them up.

    - and some of the best coupons are in magazines (but not the Tesco mag). Newbies should read the Newspaper coupon thread every day and look at MBN's Magazine Offers thread a couple of times a week, for info on the best coupons (both threads are on Discount Codes & Vouchers, not always on page 1 though).

HTH, go for it and keep your coupons in the car or your bag, NEVER in a drawer!! :o

No they can't. Tesco logo coupons have to be used as stated.

In an earlier post I mentioned that I have had little success with using on-line coupons. The SAs don't seem to trust them, even when it clearly says 'this is an online coupon'.

What luck have you had with them and have youi printed more than one of any of them?
A bit of an aside, given that this is a Tesco thread, but we used an internet coupon (for an item we were buying) in Sainsbury's today without any problem. I was even quite surprised that the assistant accepted it! I shouldn't be so pessimistic.

  • Ok, this is not Tesco, but Asda (and I know I am off thread) but I always save a load of coupons and go to the CS first. I ask what their policy is (it varies even in the same store!) but mostly they say 10% off your shopping bill. I then have a more leisurely shop and don't dread the checkout as much!!! I then say to the SA "I have already spoken to 'Sheila' from CS and she said I can use these but to call her if you have a problem" (I leave the bit about 10% out!).This works for me 99% of the time. Most CS's know me now! Sorry again for going off thread xxx
If we all lived to the rule 'an eye for an eye', the world would be blind...
  • i jus read what couponmad had to say about tesco coupon policy and as i work on the checkouts i felt i should correct the following things

we do not accept out of date coupons, it does work if we scan it, but as checkout assistants we are suppose to check it before hand but its up 2 u if u want to be sneaky and get us into trouble later by our managers

we only accept the money off coupons from sainsburys which are in date. Other shops such as sommerfirleds and asdas we do not accept but again if u want to be sneaky its up 2 u.
  • Anyway......!!!!
This week I have had loads of shops which have basically turned out free using HB vouchers and others (three hundred pounds). Before I get shouted at, I do not usually have such success and am only shopping so much because of christmas.
My question is though, and Welshy you may know this one, I have been using my clubcard for all transactions (I only have one) and my husband is worried that Tescos may take away my points or even some how trace me??!!!
Am I being super paranoid (or rather my husband!).
Many thanks for any help and yes I am ready for the criticism that comes with using so many vouchers but it will fall on deaf ears tonight I'm afraid!!!
:T Benjamin has won!!! Am soooo proud. Thank you to everyone who agreed my baby was the cutiest. Want to go round and hug everyone who voted, it means so much to me!:A
