What is it with Tesco's coupon policy?

Do you find Tesco to be inconsistent with the coupons they take?
Yesterday my son and I both bought about a half dozen items each and paid separately and our coupons were taken, no problem.
Today I was told in another Tesco they would only take 2 coupons and my quick read was refused as they are "not participating in that scheme",yet the same store took them before!
Last week in yet another Tesco I was told they would take only 5 vouchers!
Every time we take coupons in we risk them being refused and made to feel stupid. You'd think a company that big would have 1 policy that they all would stick to rather than different rules for different stores, and different supervisors and checkout operators?

Yep, it's been like that ever since I started to use coupons a year ago (and was the same going back many years, according to other MSEers).
I went to my local Tesco today, they always take at least 3 coupons, bought over £50-worth of stuff, unusual for me as I normally do lots of small shops (but we'd run out of loads of food and necessities). Got to the till and the young lad tells me 'one coupon' (checked with Supervisor, who had previously helped new cashiers scan loads for me, and he confirmed it).
I am wondering if they do this as it's near Christmas? You know when the queues are horrendous in that final week, they can't really be scanning 20 coupons for me I suppose. Let's hope they calm down in the new year.
Having said that, I am now planning to do my Christmas shopping in Asda and Waitrose (Asda cheaper, Waitrose nicer) where they will always accept more than one poxxxxxy coupon!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

i think it depends on the staff member you pick, i always look for a young student type that dont care being there and most of the time they will take all i have .. the other week i got a £46 shop down to £4.00 :-)0

Where I live the young ones seem to be worse, they query them & say I have to buy the item so I say they're Ok,you can check, so they do and the supervisor says no too.
I find the some of the older ones are better (not always though) as a lot of them understand about saving cash and they use them themselves.
I've just noticed there's another thread similar to this and it's a problems all over.
just when i've got hold of lots of coupons too:mad:0 -
I think I'll just say here's some coupons, just take whatever I'm allowed and anything taken is a bonus:cool:0

well it's totally random as today I gave the ca 5 coupons and she said I can't take any coupons if you don't buy the product rang her bell loudly and shouted out to the supervisor who looked about 17!
The supervisor said we take 5 coupons! so I found £1 ones and gave her them, she snorted and took them off!!
I then shopped again for mum and the ca took all my coupons and manually put in the ones that wouldn't scan, aplogised that ones was out of date and said have a nice day. Same shop same time!
so it's just pot luck but keep 5 high value coupons on top!0 -
I have only used coupons in tesco a couple of times. One time SA said All Coupons and another said Any Coupons but no repeats. SA on self scan in another store said anything that scans!0

Just yesterday I managed to get £15 off my bill with various coupons. The young lad serving me asked a couple of times if I had the products but scanned them anywayDon't sweat the small stuff ................It's all small stuff!0

I went to 3 different tescos yesterday
first one male SA happily scanned anything - although he did look about 14 and was happy to put them all through
second store another male SA - got very stroppy and wouldn't scan anything for vouchers I hadn't bought or even let me use my points vouchers on the toiletries. Luckily I had split shopping into 3 piles and after his attitude I left the other 2 lots on his checkout and said I had changed my mind. I then went to CS and had points and money for the vouchers he would not scan.
third store - lovely male SA happily scanned anything and said he enjoyed the break from scanning groceries.
so it can be hit and miss although the good always outweighs the refusals and as we always say ............... 1, 2, 3 ..........
coupon acceptance is a nice BONUS but not an automatic right.

I managed £9 worth of vouchers. I also look for younger people as I find the older ones to miserable. My mother in law bought two books with her weekly shop and gave the checkout lady 2 Quick read vouchers and she refused and said I can only take one. I went in done a £9 shop never bought books and used £5 worth. SO yes it's hit and miss.
When my sister worked there the policy was 10% of the shopping bill not sure if it's changed since though.Mummy to 5 beautiful girls and yes it is very hard work lol x
THANK YOU0 -
I read the title too quick and thought it said "What is Tesco's coupon policy?"
My answer was going to be 'F*** Knows!" .... Not even them!
Anyshakes ... My experience is the same as Welshy's ... only shorter ... I get less off ... the male SA don't flirt with me ... and I'm not Welsh! :rotfl:
Often they do ... and sometimes they don't ... generally though in our store they accept as long as you don't be daft ... I normally get between 8 and 12 pounds off a 15 to 20+ pound shop ... and that is just normal product coupons ... I get more with Tesco coupons
I find it best not to argue or get upset ... just say "Ok I thought you accepted them ... never mind" ... Just try not to rely on the discount and you will be ok!LittleBill ... "The riches of a man can be measured by what he can do without"0
