What is it with Tesco's coupon policy?

As a Tesco Worker!!
You can take coupons up to the value of £3 off a little shop, £10 or under.
Off a larger shop, say over £25 they will take up to £10 off non tesco vouchers. It all depends on the cashier, call a Manager to state your case, that will always work then they will take them no problems.
Tesco Policy is customer is always right.0 -
Tesco's policy on vouchers is a bit like that old saying "how long is a piece of string?"
They have hundreds of stores, thousands of workers and if ever there was a "definitive answer" from head office this can change from week to week as well.
I use one or two vouchers and think it's just a bonus rather than a right.0 -

Yep, but that's the policy in YOUR STORE only isn't it? That's certainly not the policy in my local Tesco, where one store take just one coupon, another store takes maximum £5 as long as not more than 5 vouchers and not more than 50% of the total shop.
Yet another store says 10% but only up to maximum £4 off, and finally my nearest store said one, then three, then any amount, now one again...
BTW I have never heard the bit in bold 'the customer is always right'....try telling that to a stroppy CS desk assistant when they've overcharged on a large item and are not prepared to cough up the full refund promised on the blue board behind them.:rotfl:PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

That sounds a bit of nightmare Coupon' ....
Sometimes I get turned down and sometimes they won't quite let me combine as many as I wish ... but generally they accept as many genuine coupons as I have ...
Todays shop ... a huge (for me) $44 ... I'm going to be in dollars now because Martin has stolen my pound sign ... equal rights for Mac Users :j ...
I got $19+ off ... and only 2 H&B turned down
Then I paid on a $50 gift card that I had got free from Tesco PF .... :rotfl:
I'm living a fairly charmed life at present ... but who knows ... it could change! :eek:LittleBill ... "The riches of a man can be measured by what he can do without"0 -
Yes it could all stop soon, my children are beginning to disown me as the male staff and cashiers at my local have a good chatter whilst I'm shopping.
My DD1 did the kevin and perry huffing and puffing 'cos I'm soooooo embarassing whilst shopping LOL
If it stopped tomorrow I'd have to rethink my shopping habits but would look back with a little smile and say well I saved a b****y fortune !
I once asked a cashier at my local store how many other like minded voucher users were doing the same as me and he replied "oh only one or two" so whilst we assume that Tescos are inundated with vouchers it may not be the case at all. We all talk about it on here because we are likeminded moneysavers but if we broke it down to a per store basis I bet it would only be a handful of people using vouchers like we do.
Which then makes me think that because we are the minority - we are exposed as voucher users to Tesco staff which then brings the spotlight onto ourselves - certainly in my case it did.
Maybe little and often is better than handing over a wad each time

I have one tesco (near work) staffed entirely by dragons (with some SA's who actually can breath fire) who have never accepted a single coupon. I dont even try to get them out my wallet any more.
10 miles up the road (on the way home) I have a lovely tesco's who will accept any vouchers. I even (quite accidentally) managed to handover £9.60 worth of vouchers for a £9.60 shop the other day. The SA's face when she asked for 0p and the till opened was priceless :rotfl:0 -
I must admit when I hear that "Waitrose take anything" I shake my head in disbelief and think....oh no they don't !
I am sure it is the same with Tesco......some stores will be of the dragon variety and others of the opposite.
And I have never heard of the "customer is always right" mantra at Tesco. I know a woman who is banned from her Tesco store and they were RIGHT to ban her cos she was a complete pain to watch even as a shopper !!! I would have hated for them to have to "pretend" she was right !:T0 -
I always try to pick the young male cashiers as they seem to be more willing to take anything. There is one I won't go to now as he is more particular and will take one of each plus one more but not always higher value. I had a £14.50 shop tonight reduced down to just over £3 using the lad I know is no problem - I had to queue ages but it is worth it.
Forget most of the girls and women. They usually have some restriction they are kee to tell you about. And always avoid the customer service ones who nip onto checkouts - you have no chance!!
Obviously all of this is down to my own experience and should not be taken for gospel!!!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Should you not be buying the products in order to obtain the discount?0
-
For 25 years I thought you had to buy the product to get the discount - I will not be alone !
That's what the coupon states and that's what should happen in a "fair" world.
But then the supermarkets, in a profit driven grab started to say "we will accept the vouchers even if you don't buy the product AS LONG AS WE STOCK IT" - because at the end of the day they can claim the money back from the suppliers. It is "wrong" in the final analysis and it is only fair in the "swings and roundabouts" way. Suppliers are starting to sit up and take notice of what is happening - which is why the supermarkets are starting to get frightened.
I wish I had the bottle to get a £40 shop for £4 but I haven't so I might as well have been as oblivious as before! I have only saved about £1 a week and been embarassed by having vouchers refused that were only for a few pence rather than a few pounds.0
