What is it with Tesco's coupon policy?

  • Hi, I am new to this site (and the innovative ways I, too can save money:D ) and I have loads of questions regarding coupon use!

I have cut out some coupons from recent tesco magazines (sirco cranberry juice or something like it), do I absolutely have to buy it or will some cashiers scan it off regardless?

Will TESCO take ASDA, Sainsbuty or Sommerfield coupons? Does it too depend on the checkout person or is not exactly kosher to do so?
Does anyone know if the other shops will take Tesco coupons (such as from the magazine) and which ones?

    TIA!

    That would be fraud.

Where do you lot get all the vouchers from?

    Emma :)

If you want a good £60-£80 worth of vouchers and are prepared to spend a bit of time working your way through - here is a comprehensive list.

This thread is generally talking about Tesco accepting manufacturers' coupons whether or not you are purchasing the items named.

No supermarket will logically accept its own coupons for products which you are not buying, as they won't get the money back from anyone else.

Nor do they get any money back from anyone if you use other retailers' vouchers - but they have on occasion accepted other retailers' "£5 off £50" or similar vouchers in order to eliminate the competitor's advantage.

I got £65 worth of items (four shops - how sad am I!) for £8. My poor husband is going mad as I have it all laid out in the kitchen and as most of it was BOGOF's with the HB vouchers it looks huge. .

Amazing! I'm in awe of all you voucher users. I often cut out coupons/vouchers from magazines and newspapers, but half the time I forget to bring them with me when I go shopping. Then when I come across them in a draw, 9 times out of 10 they are out-of-date. Just today I found a voucher at the back of my purse for 2.60 off tatler magazine...it ran out on 3rd december:mad: do you think I could get away with using it on the self checkout till?

keep up the good work. I'm learning a lot from your posts. I wish I'd found this forum years ago. I'd have saved a lot of money by now.

The store I work in will accept just about any number of vouchers provided you comply with all the vouchers terms (such as buying the specified product, only 1 voucher per transaction etc).

I think (although I could be wrong) taking competitors vouchers depends if the store is near a competitor - for example where I am we take Sainsbury's vouchers but not Asda coupons.

Thanks for this site, I'll keep an eye on it.

In an earlier post I mentioned that I have had little success with using on-line coupons. The SAs don't seem to trust them, even when it clearly says 'this is an online coupon'.

What luck have you had with them and have youi printed more than one of any of them?
  • I find all this rather confusing! One person says it's fraud, but a person working at Tesco says they do take Sainsbury's coupons!
So, it's up to each individual shop then?

In my experience, it is up to each individual SA and which side of bed they got out of...................!!
