What other business would be able to charge for work 3 weeks in advance of actually doing it and say they were not even prepared to give a receipt for it.

Dentists know they can pull this sort of scam and that you have no choice but to stay with them as there are few of them.

At the end of the day its my money and I dont see why I should have to pay for other people not turning up. That is up to them to make sure their appointment system is flexible or responsive enough. For instance like my optician send out a reminder text.

And then your bill would have been nearer £100 as the dentist would have to increasse prices to accomodate all the lost money from missed appointments.

When you buy a pack of eggs from asda do you think your paying for just 6 eggs?! no your paying for 6 eggs, packaging, printing, feeding, animal welfare, wages, storage, the 1 egg thats broken in the box you put back o and your contributing a little bit to profit (or atleast should be)

If your that bothered you shoudve asked for a pro forma invoice and paid on card were you could give your health care scheme a transaction reciept along with the pro forma invoice and that should suffice

So if I went into ASDA and they said well we want the money off you now but you cant have your shopping for 3 weeks that would be okay would it?
I couldnt get an appointment for 3 weeks because they couldnt fit me in.
Why should I have to fiddle about asking for invoices. I just want a normal receipt when I depart with cash. I just want not to have to pay for treatment Im not getting for 3 weeks because they cannot fit me in.
Is that too much to ask?

Tiddlywinks - No offence but I dont really care if you think I should be ashamed or not. I personally think they should be ashamed at ripping off their customers. I was merely making the point that she was blindly following orders no matter how immoral they were.

I am entitled to have my say when they have extracted £47 out of me for absolutely nothing just because they cannot be bothered to improve their service. Just as you are entitled to have your say on here.

47 quid for nothing ? Don't be ridiculous. You are simply PAYING IN ADVANCE.
Many other things charge in advance - ISPs, mobile providers, banks. I can only advise you to get some perspective and not be such a massive drama queen.

Why is it always someone else's fault these days? At one stage or another in your life you may have missed an appointment that you forgot, couldn't be bothered to go to or simply couldn't be bothered to cancel. Count yourself lucky you have an NHS dentist, lots of people don't. They are just covering their backs and making sure you return.

I hope you weren't too nasty to the receptionist, she was only doing her job.

Judging by the credit card debts you have run up according to your signature £47 isn't exactly much in the scheme of things.

I wonder if OP will share what his/her job is, and also divulge whether they have ever had to adhere to policies in that job that other people may have disagreed with, and if they have, if OP considers themself to be on par with Hitler.

Went to my local dentist this morning had a check up then booked in early June to have two fillings. Then got charged £47 for the treatment Im not having for another 3 weeks. I cannot claim the money back through my health plan because they cannot give me a receipt until Ive had the treatment.

When questioned the receptionist stated that it was their policy!

I said Im sure that's what the SS guards said when they were gassing jews. 'I am just carrying out orders'.

A bit strong I know but Im incensed. It is absolute extortion!

OP has a choice, move Dentist. Alas, if OP had stated the said to me, he would have to get a new dentist.
