Stuck in a huge fat rut

Another lurker who has signed in just to reply to you. Some things in your situation are true for me too.
I think a little step every few days can make so much difference.
e.g. get rid of those grey hairs, get an own brand hairdye from somewhere like superdrug and get it in your hair. It is very easy and costs about £3-£4 for own brand semi permenant. People with dark hair go grey earlier, but it's easiest to put the dark dyes in. People with blond hair normally need to go to a salon.
Pack away the clothes that don't fit, it is depressing looking at things you can't wear. Just hang what you can wear in the wardrobe. I only have 3/4 outfits too and I understand what you are saying about the wear. I am dieting at the mo, and every couple of months replenish my wardrobe with clothes from the supermarket. Today I got two tshirts, one £4 and one £6 and two old ones will go in the recycling. There's no point having many clothes when you are aiming to change your size.
I find it helps to do something in the evening like phone a friend, have a bath, do some chores then go straight to bed so I don't eat bad things. Have an early night and take hubby too, I bet he will fancy you if you are happy and enthusiatic!!!0 -

I do eat alot of white breads/carbs and sugar. I also eat alot of processed crap aswell.
This is where your main problem lies, you arent eating correctly.0 -
I don't have kids but I felt very much like you until I got engaged when that was the kick up the bum I needed to sort myself out. There is no quick fix but hopefuly these will help.
- Carbs - don't cut out completely as you'll find this unsustainable and fall off the wagon and probably feel even worse about yourself. I used a scales and measured out half of my normal portion of rice/pasta etc.
- Halve the amount of meat you use in things like spag bol, curry and make the rest up with veg like chickpeas or kidney beans. Just as fillling and you end up getting more of your 5 a day.
- Still have the treats and takeaways but just eat less. I save a small portion of chinese or indian that I would have eaten and give it to OH for lunch the next day. I used to have a packet of crips a day, I cut this back to once a week.
- Finding the time to go to the gym can be hard and I often couldn't be bothered so I do 5/10 minutes of stretched, lunges, sit ups, press ups every morning whilst still in my PJ's. It really makes a difference and if you can add in an excersise DVD a few times a week all the better!
- Green tea and hot water with lemon, supposed to be for good weight loss & help you detox. No idea if it works but no harm trying! I have one each of these a day.
- Get a home beauty routine. Once a week I put on a face mask, hair mask, exfoliate and moisturise all over. May be tricky for you to find time with the little ones but maybe ask hubby to take the kids for an hour or so (you'll feel better for the "me" time too!).
I lost 3 stone doing this and have kept the weight off 3 years later. It does take a bit of commitment (especially at first when I was scared of being hungry!) but it does work and after a month or two you'll be getting compliments which will spur you on. I can honestly say I look better at 30 than I did at 22, I just wish that I'd done something sooner and hadn't wasted most of my twenties feeling carp about myself. Very best of luck! xx0 -
About the sw/ww referrals - My Mum's GP gave her vouchers or something for Slimming World and she doesnt have to pay... she's lost four stone in the last few months
good luck xx

I'm really sorry to read how down your weight is making you feel but you are right, only you can do something about it (with the help and support of dr/oh/friends/colleagues)
I have been on and off weight watchers for the last few years, dropping nearly 3 stone and maintaining it for over a year now.
I can only tell you one thing.......being slim isn't easy!!
I used to eat huge portions of carbs/meat plus all the snacks and take aways I wanted. I still have big portions but all my meat & carbs are weighed (you'll be surprised how much a 'normal portion' size is - I never thought I'd survive!) but I bulk out all my meals with loads and loads of veg and snack on fruit.
I still enjoy takeaways just less frequently and where possible I make better choices (ie things like chop suey/chow mein from the chinese instead of deep fried sweet & sour balls)
What I'm trying to say is that being slim involves will power for most people. Things like crisps/chocolate/takeaways/chips etc all need to be considered a TREAT and only eaten occassionally or you'll just be consuming too many calories.
It also takes a bit of preparation in advance for most meals but it will certainly pay off once you start to lose weight & feel good about yourself. Batch cooking & freezing portions for those days you don't have time to cook is a great idea.
Take small steps and ask for help from OH and the dr....just think how good you'll feel.....if you're good for a couple of months you could lose a stone.
I really hope you manage to get out of your rut & start enjoying life more.

I think what you are seeing in the mirror is a reflection of how you feel about yourself. It doesn't matter what is actually looking back out at you from the mirror if you are disatisfied about it, it will never look right to you.
I think we all go through days and maybe weeks when we feel a bit like this - some people feel too short or too tall or that their nose is too big - you at least have the option of losing the weight if you want to.
I agree with the person who said to dye your hair. This makes a big difference and diary it in for six weeks to repeat as I find that otherwise I forget and then catch sight of a lot of grey and feel worse. Would a different colour suit you?
You don't like any of your clothes? Could you buy a couple of things from Asda or New Look that look good and suit you and see how that makes you feel?
I doubt if it bothers your OH that you have put on a bit of weight. Would you stop fancying him if he put on a similiar amount? If you were happy that your clothes were flattering, maybe made an effort with a bit of make up, would he notice? Would it be a good idea to spend some time just the two of you as a couple not just as a mum and family?
If you are at home with the kids all day, then working until 8 no wonder you are tired. Be gentle with yourself and let yourself feel valued.0 -
see a hairdresser. Have some colour put in your hair then it wont show the grey.:footie:0

Aww OP, *hugs*, I know just how you feel.
I kept a food diary, I wrote down everything that went into my mouth over the course of a day and watched calories religiously. I had a spreadsheet that I wrote the calorific value of everything I ate. I usually ate about 1200 calories a day and did exercise too, started off just walking more but gradually added a couple of dvds (Bar Method Body was one) and finally took to cycling. It took about a year to get from over 13st to just over 9st and I've more or less managed to stay there ever since. It's much better for maintenance if you lose weight slowly and totally change your eating habits rather than going on crash diets where you will just put back on the weight when you start eating normally again.
One thing I did was to allow myself chocolate etc. but if I ate it then I had to get on my bike and burn off the extra calories first. Sometimes I wanted the chocolate that much that I was willing to do an extra hours' exercise, quite often it didn't seem quite so appealing when I thought about how much effort was needed to burn it off.
You can do something about losing weight - you just need to find something that works for you, but if you start by just cutting out the empty calories and reducing portion sizes you'll soon start dropping the pounds and that will motivate you to do more.
Good luck.Whatever0 -
I don't really have any advice im afraid but just wanted to say I know how you feel, I have 2 young kids 4 and 2 and Im the same, all my clothes are from Primark I have nothing stylish to be honest men never looked at me before lol, Ive got Gray hairs since having the kids, put on weight and end up eating junk foods most nights because Im to tired to cook. Ive just moved house and Im hoping the hilly walk into town is going to help me get my bum moving0

Wilkinsons do a perfectly good hair dye at £1-ive used it and its fine-just has no "frills" like conditioner-covers grey well. They also do a slightly more expensive one in a green box at £1.60, but I havent "splashed out" on that one!!0
