Having to fill up 1st is the issue. Go to America and you pay 1st then fill up, so this problem would never happen there.
I have always wondered why we don't have that system here? Simply dial in how much you want and then pay. The pump automatically shuts off when you reach that amount.
It would stop people filling up first and driving off. Also, would prevent people accidentally filling their car up with more petrol than they wanted (i.e. £20.01 instead of £20, arghh!)
Lack of money is the root of all evil.

maybe you filled up with the premium diesel some stations have two different grades on the pumps
Yeh i did this a couple of weeks ago, thought my car was running super smooth and quite responsive but thought the missus had been playing around. turns out when i went back to the garage yesterday that i had put super super petrol at 145.9 !!
Fancy having both handles though for the petrol exactly the same, impossible to tell the difference unless you take note of how much it is when pumping.
At least i had fun ragging my car for a week, definately noticed a difference in performance and really didnt think you would.0 -

I've seen that system here at some pay at the pump stations0 -

Your rights: pricing disputes FAQs
The wrong label
I picked up a leather jacket in store which had a price tag of £40 on it. When I took it to the till the assistant said that it had been labelled incorrectly and the actual price was £90. Surely I am entitled to buy it for £40?
Unfortunately not. When a retailer displays goods for sale they are, by law, simply inviting you to make an offer to buy. They are then fully within their rights to refuse your offer, for example, if the goods have been priced incorrectly.
Legally correct, but in the real world ...
When I worked in retail, the rule was very simple.
If the price was going up, you changed the label first. If the price was going down, you changed the till first. That way, anyone buying that item whilst you were changing the price got a pleasant surprise when they got to the till.
If there was a discrepancy between the price label and the price on the till, because someone - usually in head office - had screwed up, you always went with the lower of the two. It was worth double the difference in goodwill. You then immediately removed the price label and rang head office, in that order. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

I think there is very good reason for this. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
