Valli re your kitchen. Have a look at Howdens who only supply to trade - if you can get a recommendation for a kitchen fitter from friends/family/colleagues - it can work out an awful lot cheaper than a retail kitchen. We had ours from B&Q which was an absolute nightmare. The units are reasonable quality, the worktops are not great, price wise for a high st kitchen it wasn't too bad, but the fitter was completely incompetent. We had a year long dispute through the furniture ombudsman which resulted in over £2000 awarded back to us in compensation (about 20% of total cost) I would avoid B&Q like the plague if I was doing it again.

A fitter can either ruin expensive cupboards or make cheap cupboards fit well and last a reasonable time so I would say that is the most important factor. We did get a couple of appliances from B&Q as those were actually the cheapest prices we could find. Fridge freezer and oven we got from tinternet retailers. Make sure you examine every single cost in a quote/order to see if you can get it cheaper elsewhere from builders merchants, online places etc - taps, sinks, door handles etc etc Also, re tiles - we had all our tiles from a tile merchant supplying to trade - we went up there to choose and the builder put in the order. I wouldn't pay retail prices for tiles again. Except for my small weakness for Fired Earth tiles................but thats different!
Be warned though... My kitchen fitter sent some howdens units back three times as they were damaged. I didn't like their doors, so I had some made up by one of the replacement door places, and everything else from different places so I could have exactly what I wanted. I kept all my existing appliances (my oven is only about 10 years younger than me!)

    Well the saga continues!!

Out of 17 people called we had 5 replies.
1 said to ring someone who had been out and never bothered sending a quote
1 said they no longer do 'that sort of work'
3 came out and gave quotes.. 2 were the same, 1 was extortionate.
1 of them was supposed to be coming Thursday 19th.. and rang this morning saying he can't come until.. 2nd June!!!!!!!!!!!

I am SO f***ed off with this.. is it too much to actually want to have the girls sleeping in a room that isn't going tomake them ill!!!!!!!
Funny, I thought there was a recession and people needed work.... But I can't find anyone to do the stuff I need either...
I have written a scarily long list of things I want to tackle (55 items off the top of my head) which I will share here for future motivation:

Sorry for being dim, but what's a frog?!
you appear to have got yourself a toots list:D

Can't deal with links right now... I think toots or piggers needs to add frogs to the intro posts!

Just spent 30 mins decluttering a huge pile of post DH hadn't even opened  - luckily nothing ominous in there. He's told me he finds it overwhelming when he has piles of paper around so can I take over opening the post etc - erm, let me think about it, YES - result :j:j:j!! I used to be a PA pre-kids so this is like sorting a boss out lol!
Yet another thing we have in common...:rotfl: Mr LW is dreadful for putting off opening his post, so now, when he phones me (he checks I'm OK twice a day) if there's post for him, I tell him, and give him a brief description (like - "I think it's from the bank", or "it's postmarked such-and-such") and he always asks me to open if for him. If it's clearly from a utility, or something I'll have to deal with anyway, I just go ahead and open it, even if it has his name on. Works for us.....;)

    I think that's an excellent idea.
Having broken down the clothes Frog into Tadpoles, we're getting along with the task swimmingly, if you'll forgive the expression.;) We've decided not to muck about with trying things on on mornings when Mr LW has to go to work, but will do at least 2 items in the evening.

My jeans have already gone in the RSPCA box.... not only can I put them on without undoing, they won't actually stay up over my hips!:T

Listy for today is going well; just the bin-bag dance left to do (luckily the oven was pretty clean, as we're being very good about wiping down as soon as it's cool).:A:D

I do have to make a pizza for tonight's dins though, so I guess I'd better set to on that shortly; I also have a credit card bill to pay online.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

Don't worry about tidying up for them, I am sure your house is fine and no where near as bad as some they will visit. DH used to tell me of some of the horrors he saw, they were usually ones where he would not sit down and would not have a drink if offered one

As my friends say 'you wipe your feet on the way out'!

(((hugs))) for sammiell, I hope it gets sorted soon.

Interview went well, should hear by the end of the week.

FF is switched off for defrosting. Have sent DD to do some chiselling ;) I really need to tidy up in the LR. I'll do that while watching SVU and doing a bit of ironing.

Anyone want to join me HHC 1.45-2.15?
