Bad news, shed fans.
K940 UPM will be going to the scrapyard as soon as the dealer gets the V5 back from me. Found a leak at the fuel tank/pump which had been bodged up with gaffer tape by a previous owner. Strong petrol fumes outside the car and once we'd removed the inspection hatch, inside the cabin too.
Dealer was a very reasonable chap and refunded the money without grief - I guess unlike some he realised his reputation was worth far more than £250.
As for shed motoring - I'm out.0 -
Sorry for your troubles Kilty. I think there is often a romanticism about being able to buy an old banger for next to nothing and get a few years' motoring out of it. While this is possible, I have a feeling that the reality is often more along the lines of what you've unfortunately experienced.

I think some people get lucky and get one without serious faults that they can cheaply fix themselves. Luck and motoring don't go hand in hand for me thoughj0

Bad luck, but good with the dealer though.0

Unlucky mate.
It's times like this that I regret selling that old Daewoo. £325 for a car that had quite a lot of life left in it, against £250 for a knacker.
Luck of the draw, and the replacement car has been as good as you would expect a Mitsu to be, but even so it went against the grain then to sell something serviceable for buttons and I still regret it.
Most folk feel the same way, hence most £250 cars are nails.0 -
True he did refund the money without arguing, but to be brutally honest he did sell you a pretty unsafe car that stank of petrol to begin with. I'm not quite sure he's worthy of the 'credit to his trade' accolade.A credit to his trade, and I'd certainly not hesitate about buying a car from him again.

It didn't stink of petrol until after I filled the tank to the brim - I find it highly unlikely he knew of the problem0 -
Probably only ever been half filled for the last five years, and went to the dealers nearly empty.
edit - hope you drained the petrol out again.0
