I meant name dropping in the sense that you revealed who had given you unannounced information. I was merely pointing out that it could be considered a breach of trust to then post information, provided in a professional and private context, on a public forum.

I'll admit I banded about the term "commercially sensitive" which may have made it seem like I thought this was a bigger deal than it was.

Thanks, I probably should not have mentioned it but people seemed sceptical about the veracity of the information and I felt goaded into putting down who it was that told me, I should have shown more self-restriant.

If you look back there seems to be alot of people on here who either work in bank branches and dont like management or dont like management of big companies in general as they seem to feel it inappropriate to ask them anything.

Many people on the board get annoyed when people say "go to the top", if you have an issue you cant get resolved at a different level in an organisation the board is littered with examples of that and then when you do they are asking for "your head on plate".

I recently had a problem with another bank often mentioned in the credit card section. I could not get to the right department via the telephone service so I emailed the CEO and he, and no one was more surprised than me, looked into the problem personally and wrote back to me himself. As long as you are polite they are just people as well and are often very polite in response.

I just wish I had used the word "former" rather than later (should have been latter) in an earlier post and maybe I would not have started the same row.

The big difference between this branch sale and that of the RBS Group is that the final price paid will be adjusted to reflect the number of customers that are transferred. They seem to recognise (finally) that customers don't like ot be treated as a pure commodity.
  • Savagej, many thanks for taking trouble, it will be interesting to see when everything is settled.

    No probs, Andy

I got a new set of T&C's in my statement from them this morning and there is one quite large change (takes effect I think it is the 7th, but dont quote me, of November this year).

All current account customers including Easycash, Cardcash and I am sure Expresscash can use a branch counter to withdraw up to £2500 a day. Previous to this it was £1200, for current accounts, and was my understanding basic banking a/c customers under the old HBOS regime could not use the counter serivce unless it was for an amount over £300. So they are relaxing some rules.

Mind you for a major high street bank putting such a small limit on counter cash withdrawals does seem rather odd. I am sure many people go in wanting far larger cash withdrawals than either the present or upcoming limits.

Edit: please ignore this and see post below, it is wrong

The limit has been £2500 since the start of the year.

The basic accounts bit is new though.

I don't think it's really a problem. Most people who want to withdraw over £2500 will know about it the previous day, so can phone the branch to order it.

The reason behind it is to reduce fraud: for obvious reasons, a fraudster does not want to tell the bank when they will be coming in to attempt a withdrawal!

    Fair points!

Just found the "Notice of variation" and it is for the Bank of Scotland. It does state if you want more you have to give your branch advance notice

Says, "The changes will take effect from 7 November 2011".

    1. Change to the special conditions of your account: new cash withdrawal limit of £2,500

and included 7 accounts, ones I missed from above are Reward and Ultimate Reward current accounts, the regular current account and Student current accounts.

So, are branches already allowing this to happen? Or, does it apply for Halifax branches as that is the name of the thread after all? The booklet I have does not mention the Halifax.

Edit: Actually I could be wrong about the basic accounts as it does not state the lower limit is relaxed, only that the upper limit is raised to £2500

Edit 2: Actually I am completely wrong, a BoS customer can withdraw up to £1200 at a Halifax branch in England and Wales, the upper limit currently stands at £10,000 and is being reduced to £2,500 and there is no change for basic account customers it still must be over £300 at a branch counter.

Opps. My memory is not as good as it used to be I will make sure I check and re-check my facts before I post like this again.

The limit of £2500 took effect from the start of February this year in Halifax branches. No idea what BOS branches allow.

As far as I am aware, both Halifax and BOS customers can currently withdraw up to £2500 on demand, or unlimited with notice, from Halifax branches.

I could be wrong again maybe the T&C's on the website are not up to date, I just read the ones after click apply for an Easycash account. Then I matched up the sections from the "notice of variation" booklet which have no plain English section to it or states we are lowering the limit from £10,000 to £2,500. It is rather unclear, well that is my excuse and i am sticking to it.

Definitely say, "we have an agreement in place with Halifax to withdraw up to £1,200 per day at counter" and there is no change in the notice I have about that. Then again if all the accounts are on the one system who really understand the difference properly or actually looks at it that closely.
