Tesco wont replace battery as warranty less than 12 months.
I sent my Samsung Genio Slide back to Tesco as it was within it’s 12 months warranty (purchased 30 June), as stated on the receipt. It suddenly wouldn’t charge or turn on.
It was duly returned with a letter to say “it had been fully repaired”. The battery was missing though. I called to enquire and was told there was a fault with the battery calibration and I would have to buy a new battery from Samsung as it was not covered by Tesco’s warranty as the battery was classed as an accessory.
The Samsung warranty booklet does say the phone has a 2 year warranty but the battery is only 6 month warranty..
My question is, the Tesco receipt says all their mobile phones have a 12 month warranty but can they get out of this by throwing the manufacturers battery warranty at me?…. especially when the return letter said the phone had been fully repaired and there was no mention of a battery fault.

They must return your battery to you (working or not) or provide you with a replacement.

I had already asked for them to send the original back, I intend to complain as there wa no mention of the fault being the battery...they said they had repaired the fault in full but not much use to me if I can't prove it without buying a new battery.If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.0

Tesco gone very strange lately.
I bought their compatiable ink and it wouldn't work so I took them back. I didn't have receipt but all the packaging and even one pack unopened as it came with 2 black. They refused to exchange as I didn't have my reciept and couldn't prove they were a Tesco product. Urmh the packaging said "Tesco" and they scanned and were current stock! They gave me HQ number and wanted to send me away but I made them ring HQ while I was there and they told the store to exchange them.
Store managers being over zealous or being instructed to reduce returns????~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

sale of goods act protects you in most cases, but not when it comes to consumables.
although you do not need a receipt to prove WHERE you purchased the product if it is obvious by the packaging.
BUT you do need to provide SOME FORM of proof as to WHEN. E.G a bank statement that lists product purchased. if you have a loyalty card with tesco they normally keep records of what you purchased. so hopefully use your loyalty card as something for tesco to use as a investigatory tool.
a receipt is not essential. but is helpful as it lists products and dates. much harder to find proof elsewhere, but if you can find proof elsewhere of when ink purchased then they have to accept it.
in the case of inks .. its a little less then honest but buy a new ink cartridge keep receipt. then a couple days later return with new receipt and old cartridge preferably buy from different store and return to that different store so no one remembers you.
again not a suggestion.. just a simple work around to avoid bad headaches for just a few quid.
normally i just chuck the cartridge away abd buy new, as thats the whole risk of buying compatibles, their refilled so not 100% will work0 -
IMHO Tesco are right. If the battery was faulty they have (I believe) a duty of care to dispose of the battery. Also the battery is considered an accessory as has already been stated and therefore not covered by warranty. what if the battery was leaking?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I would dispute it. Where batteries are consumables, packaging states that the device requires such and such a battery, then states if they are included or not. I'm pretty sure your packaging for your samsung phone wouldn't have stated that.0
