It would be something of Pyrrhic victory, I'm afraid.

A Pyrrhic victory ( /pɪrɪk/) is a victory with devastating cost to the victor; it carries the implication that another such victory will ultimately cause defeat.

Right, now back from google :D

Nothing happens without a reason - somewhere along the line, some good will come of it ....just not quite sure what yet, tho :)

the worst offender, or those that appear to be so, are always tackled, whether it be in a class of school children or on a football field. We can discuss the rights and wrongs of this all day – but that is a fact.

That seems to be a rather unfortunate example. You have had new posters coming onto the forum quite regularly lately and being downright insulting to people offering them advice, by the time they have reached 10 posts they are being reported for it, and the report is ignored.

You have chosen to castigate one of your most prolific posters with this ban (which should really have been called a suspension). Far better to have just deleted the offending posts and lock the thread before it gets too far out of line.
    (8) The sheer number of members offering their support following our judgement has convinced me that we are not wrong.

Those same members could have, as easily, followed us here to make their views known. It would have made for an even more interesting debate. That they chose not to makes me think the vast majority of members are actually indifferent to what's happening.

On a personal note, I must have complained about colincbayley's parting remarks, re agent46, when he left the forum at least 12 to 15 times in open posts. You only decided to remove it when it was pointed out to you yet again during this little spat when you removed the top protest lines. That's hypocrisy.

I sellotaped 3 fingers together to do them there lines :rotfl:

haha, this reminds of when I was in geography class at school way back in the early 80's and the whole class had to do lines. I thought I would be smart and use carbon paper to make my life easier.......3 detentions later :rotfl:Nice to see your avatar btw!

MTG - any classics like that in your experience??

Well, from a teacher's perspective, I gave up setting lines years ago...far too easy! When I did set them though, I used to make them utterly senseless and longwinded so the reprobate really had to concentrate and couldn't just get into the rhythm of it and do them on 'autopilot'. Or I made them produce the school rule they'd broken in beautiful illuminated lettering.

With one kid who was in trouble for persistently hawking/spitting (like his favourite footballer!), I found an internet article about the health issues surrounding ejaculated phlegm and made him copy that out. He was almost as green as the phlegm by the time he'd finished.

    Hmmm.

    Interpretation

    1. Only reported posts need moderating (possibly)

    2. We are only allowed happy smilies & we must not engage in debate on differing view points at a temp >18deg (room temp)

    3. Robust debate may sometimes be tolerated, but no swearing or name calling - even if you try to disguise name calling by using big words that most of us need to look up on google.(It seems lots of members do this)

    4. Mtg is not the worst offender, but she came in a close 2nd place.

    5. If you agree or disagree with an opinion you might voice it & this may offend a halfwit who doesn't understand what is going on or what you are talking about.

    6. We owe you nothing.

    7. MTG was singled out - fact of life - The right & wrongs can be discussed all day - something is a fact tho dont know what ?

    8. Stumped me this one - best i can up with is this was actually the most important one of all - but with typos.

"The sheer number of members offering their support following our judement has convinced me that we are not wrong"

    should read:

"The sheer number of members offering their support following our judement has convinced me that we were wrong"

    9. When members are on the forum pls be patient and be prepared to repeat posts over and over again. Pls lose the high and mighty 'tude and stop being unhelpful.
Altho we do not necessarily afford our longstanding members the same courtesy over forum matters.

    10. We are here to make a profit from your many hours of free service. Advertisers are not impressed with you childish spat pls be good and get back to work.

    11. I don't know how to resolve this mess that we have created.

..I am wondering what to take as my luxury item for my 10 day stint now.
My posts are my opinion which is neither right nor wrong.

My sentiments exactly, Rodent and jta/jamie. I don't do 'furious,' but I don't do 'lie down and be kicked' either. It seems I am to be the randomly-chosen whipping boy for their subjective (and very personal) obsession that people are 'behaving badly'. They want to make an example of someone - it's like that bit in Orwell's Animal Farm where the hens (who've done nothing much wrong) are publicly denounced and executed, to frighten everyone else into submisison! Well, unlike the AF hens, I shan't be renouncing my alleged sins and putting my neck hysterically on the block. I think they have lost any fragile credibility they ever had; their latest answer smacks of despair.

jta, your comments seem to be directed to the LLZ site - are you intending to post them there, or are they from an email?

If LLZ make it to Xmas then i would like to nominate LC's post for best post seen on LLZ to date:
The Lib-Dems come to mind. You take years building yourself up and destroy it in a day but cannot see it and keep arguing you did the right thing - you really really did.

...now if only LLZ had a thank button.
My posts are my opinion which is neither right nor wrong.

Well they are meant for Tom to read, however I have not logged into LLZ for some time now, I only read it as a guest, I'm probably addicted but I'm working on it. In any case I am sure that Tom is following this thread as closely as any of us

As you know, I already felt I had been slighted by whoever gave me an infraction for a perfectly reasonable answer to an idiot that had very definitely insulted me, and also that I did not have the courtesy of a reply from Tom or whoever when I asked why. Well, in my opinion, courtesy works both ways.

Rodent puts it perfectly, we owe them nothing, we are volunteers.

If I choose to contribute again then I will, meanwhile I am not feeling like it. :)

Their point no. 7 really cracked me up: Trying to justify your actions by taking children and football players as examples is really quite daring...
