Hi folks,
We want to help newbies get up to speed on our site. We know sometimes existing users get annoyed by posts in the wrong place or someone not knowing the etiquette but we’d like you to help us encourage people to get it right, rather than berate them for getting it wrong.
We feel it is important to be a little extra protective of our Newbie users until they’ve gained some confidence in the process so, to that end, we’re going to start a campaign to encourage our regular users to help us welcome and take care of newbies. To begin with, from next week, we plan to highlight our brand new users and request that our veterans treat them a little more gently while they’re learning the ropes. To do this, we’ve created a sticker that will appear below the newbie’s names and will stay up for a few weeks or until they’ve made a certain number of posts.
Please pay a little extra attention to the new folk, be more tolerant and accepting that they may ask what you consider to be a silly (or previously asked) question.
If you would like to add any thoughts or comments, or if you have any suggestions for the campaign to welcome new users to our Forum, please do so below.
Finally, please remember to be nice to all other MoneySavers.
Thanks,
Webby

Are we still allowed to berate the obvious spammers and trolls?
I know of some multiple AE's that will take extra pleasure in the new badge.0 -

I would suggest that rather than spend time implementing this largely unnecessary measure, time and resources might be better spent attempting to stop events like the recent spamming attack by a user registering multiple new accounts and posting extremely offensive material.:cool:0 -
Thanks Kered,
Actually we'd request that you don't berate anyone, for two reasons:
1. If they are trolls, this only encourages them.
2. If they're not trolls or AEs then they're genuine newbies who have no idea why they're being attacked.
As always, we'd encourage you to report any abuse of the Forum to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com and let the team deal with the issue.

You need to get into the Arms or DT more Webbie and read some of the threads that get started in there at the weekend by the usual AE's, the responders seem to take great delight in keeping the threads alive and those of us that report them get put off by the amount of time it takes to get something done about them.0

Why not just add them to your ignore list?If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Why not just add them to your ignore list? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

But MSE can't do anything about the trolls, other than banning the username.
So if you see a post your don't like. Just ignore it or report it if offensive. Responding to it will just fuel the fire.
If you feel that strongly about the troll, add them to your ignore list.
It's not rocket science...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
