Don't forget that those comparison sites are only interested in presenting you with deals that are lucrative for them. You are far better off investigating what different providers offer yourself - especially as some companies that you may get introduced to are dreadful when it comes to paying out.0

Hi all - i took out a policy from PostOffice in Dec 2016 for the Premium lifetime cover and like many people put in the direct debit details, stored the confirmation email and put the policy documents in the drawer when they arrived through the post. Having not had a dog before when i noticed him limping for a new days popped down the vets and he was subsequently booked in for x-ray and they said he may had elbow dyspraxia and referred him to a specialist.
I called PostOffice to check my policy and was informed it was "£6000 per claim per year with an £80 excess" so proceeded to confirm the appointment for 3-wks time. I thought id put a call in to the PostOffice today to check as it was going to be a 4-weeks from vets to specialist and then i was told my policy is only for "£1000 per claim per year with an £80 excess". I've now checked the paperwork and this is correct and the initial x-rays have totalled £900 so I am very stuck as the surgery is likely to be in the region of £5000.
Has anyone had this sort of thing before? I've been misadvised directly (and PostOffice have investigated the recorded call and seen i was misinformed) but now wont honour what they advisded me on the call? Any advice on what my options are here? Thanks all.0 -
The reporting body as such for taking further action would be the Financial Ombudsman - https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/making-a-complaint-about-an-insurance-company#step-3--ask-the-financial-ombudsman-service-for-help0

Unfortunately, the policy document is regarded as the contract between you and the company and it is your responsibility to have read it before agreeing to it. That's why you shouldn't just dump it in a drawer but read it first. However, because you were told one thing over the phone (and assuming it's backed up by a recording) you should complain to the Ombudsman. The first step though, is to formally complain to the Post Office, in writing, telling them that you are making a formal complaint. You should get a reply saying that 'this is our final decision'. That's when you go to the Ombudsman.0

I've found E & L insurance to be very good. Half the price of Petplan, who I've been with for many years but now seem to cover for only £3000 and has put the premiums up a lot. Presumably because of specialists like The Supervet who charge huge amounts to put our pets back together0

Have you claimed anything from E& L?
They do have a reputation of managing to find reasons not to pay put.0 -

That's an understatement. Check review sites. Almost every review has said that the claimant has had to fight them and in many cases weren't successful.
On many forums they are rated as the absolute worst pet insurers.0 -
Hi James
I'm sorry that this isn't actually answering your query, but I thought I should just mention that I am with the Post Office with my phone and broadband subscription, but since I have had problems with the broadband side, (as in almost NO speed, lack of internet access, etc,) they have not helped at all. They always come up with "excuses" as to what I should or shouldn't do, but it doesn't fix anything. Because a lot of this hasn't been recorded on their files, since it started about 9 months ago, they will only offer me a refund of about £22, to cover all my monthly payments with problems, and are not interested in whether I leave or not. I am only telling you this in order that you gain an idea as to what they appear to be like as a company and sorting problems. I would recommend that you go to the Insurance Ombudsman if the PO doesn't help.0 -
Hi.
Looking to get first time insurance for my new German wirehaired pointer puppy.
I know pet plan. Is the ultimate go to place however. Have done a qoute with tescos which is half the price of pet plan for virtually like for like policy cover
I can see reading tescos terms and conditions. If a specialist refferal is needed, it has to be from an approved list. Other than this anyone have any bad experiences / advice of tesco. I can only find positive experiences.
I know there's plenty of one's to avoid. Does anyone have any insurers they'd reccomend ?
Cheers0 -

Have you checked the approved list of specialists?
the specialists that my vet uses are on that list so no problems..
A friend has her dog insured with Tesco and has claimed for allergy testing. She is very happy with tesco.
I had one dog with Tesco but despite no claims his premium increased a lot.probably due to his age
I changed to Morethan , bought through Bought by Many for a discount. https://boughtbymany.com/
They have many policies available.0
