It's crazy how the prices have gone up, I expected an increase but not to the extent that it has gone up.

The insurance for one of my dogs went down nearly £5 per month at renewal in August. I was most surprised.
  • My cat insurance with PetPlan has gone up and up every year, so I've (hastily) just cancelled it. Any recommendations as to who to take out new insurance with for 10-year old cat with no known conditions? Thanks.

If you read back this thread and other threads on insurance there are lots of comments on what to look for and who to avoid.

Nobody can really advise you as premiums depend on your post code, type of animal, and age of animal. Some companies also increase premiums due to previous claims. So what is good for one person is not good for another.

You should have waited for at least 2 weeks into new insurance before cancelling old one as nobody will cover for the first 2 weeks anyway so you left yourself and your cat open to potential massive bills - should anything happen.

All my 6 cats are insured with PetPlan and being in London I now pay a total of £110ish per months for all of them together. The oldest will be 11 this year and youngest is 5yo.

My PetPlan did not jump a lot offer the years to be honest and we did have few large claims.

With your cat being 10 yo - not sure you will find anything cheaper than whatever you were paying plus remember that PetPlan covers dental when most others do not.

My grown up cat has been insured with Petplan for the last 2 years, now I've got a new kitten and need to get him insured too. Does anyone know if I can add him to my existing insurance plan to claim the multi-pet discount, or is this for new customers only?
It doesn't seem logical to have separate insurance policies for cats living in the same house but I can't seem to find any information about amending my existing policy to include number 2.
I've sent Petplan a message about this but they're "experiencing an unusually high number of enquiries" so who knows when I'll get a reply.
  • You can't amend the policy to cover both cats. You have to get a new one but Pet Plan will give you a multi-pet discount on the premiums.

When I added a my pup, Petplan added him to the same policy and gave the multipet discount.

Both dogs were dealt with separately for claims, but on the one policy with one DD payment each month.

My Petplan for my 2 10-year old cats went up to £48 from £42 a month but I have to say I have never had any problems with them; In fact when we put a first claim in that was linked to a pre-existing condition that we had treated under the previous insurer, they didn't even query it. It was paid in full. The excess is now £110 but I have just dropped one of mine off for a weird cough he has had for a month and it will be £650 for x-rays and an endoscope (+the 3 checkups to get to this point) so totally worth it for £24 a month per cat.

The quote for my 7 year old cocker spaniel came through at £987 with John Lewis. I was expecting an increase (although I haven't made any claims this year) but not £26 more per month. I've been reading up the pros and cons of a good number of other insurers and came across Vetsure on the Pet Insurance Review site. It gets excellent reviews but it almost seems just too good to be true! Is anyone with Vetsure for insurance and if so how have you found them?

For two days running, now, I have tried to access the comparison sites via your "Pet Insurance Guide". I have accessed the "Compare the Market" site with no problems, but - although I can access "GoCompare", it just lets me complete all my details, each time, and then when I click on "Continue" to get all the quotes, it comes up with an error page each time.
I guess there isn't much difference between the two sites, but as I can't get into this site, I don't know.

Also, I don't know where the error is, whether it is the link, the website or what, so it's hard to report to the right people, (although I have tried).
