I've just had my renewal from Saga and it's gone from £332 to £476.
(haven't made a claim by the way)
Did a trawl and came up with Aviva @ £367 but 24 hours later a geezer from Aviva rang me and offered £327 ? Haven't commited myself yet but from what peeps on here say about their customer service (you never know when you might need it), I might go for Axa @ £379.

would have to agree try brookers.different senario trying to insure my 19 year old son renewal quote with aviva £2500 . tryed a local brooker £1280.so i then asked which insurer? guess what aviva?? car insurance rarely makes any sence to me.DONT FORGET TO LET SAGA KNOW THAT YOUR NOT RENEWING

Yeah, the policy ended last year and the renewal forms came through but I just sent off the log book with the cancellation form and they never renewed.

Regarding local brokers... How do I find them? I mean, I've heard of them over the years but no luck in finding any...

I am 76 and I insured both my cars with Admiral (£100 excess ) for a lot less than £576 total a month ago . What does Dad drive ? a Veyron ?

A Veyron that was insured for £110? I think not :D What ever the price, anything over £150 with a driving record like his is unacceptable.

to be honest im starting to wounder how insurers get their prices.

a skyline, supra, impreza, cosworths,RS,MG ZT 2.5T volvo s60/s80 2.5T are all cheaper for me to insure than a 1.4 focus alone adding anyone to my policy increases it.

The car is a 2001 Volvo S40. I mean, it's not like its a 1967 Shelby GT or anything. What's funny is.. He was quoted £430 for a 2004 V12 S600.... Go figure.

Well something is blighting his insurance file. It is not his age , it is not his insurance record, it is not his car so what is it ? You say that his policy ended in 2010 and we must presume there was no renewal and his insurance lapsed . Therefore must also presume he has no no-claims bonus certificate as his entitlement would be shown on the current renewal which he does not have . You say Saga will not insure him again , what was the falling out your Dad had with Saga? there must be some history in this refusal.

Could be the address of the op is no longer safe for the insurer. A few years ago I was with swiftcover and despite not making a claim, they decided not to offer me a renewal. When I called them to ask why, I was told it was due to the status of my postcode being downgraded in their 'database of insurance risks'.

I was about to suggest that myself, something has happened on the street/postcode that has got the insurance companies worried.

I remember a few years back (before premiums started rocketing up) one weekend there was a spate of car break-ins on my street (I was OK). Later that year at renewal time my premium shot up.

No criminal record, or points on his license either. Nothing happened with Saga, he didn't have use for the car anymore so he didn't renew. He called them and they sent him a form along with an envelope to send back his CoMI with the cancellation form.

I'm surprised Saga didn't insure him to be honest. They actually refused. Odd.

Is there anyway to check the areas insurance ratings? At least that way I would know if this is the reason. It's madness that they're quoting him prices he was paying when he was in his early 30's commuting with his brand new Volkswagen LT. (:D)

    Take care.
Don't some companies ask "have you ever been refused motor insurance"?
