Shouldn't be on the LH side of a traffic island to go straight over? Now i've heard it all :rotfl:
In the absence of road markings, the highway codes general rule should be applied.

    Your highway code you mean?
Undertaking on the left is ok if you can squeeze down the side of a single lane?
Not the one the rest of us use then?

Pot kettle black spring to mind.
The lack of the ticking from striders own indicators is glaringly apparent on the soundtrack, the road is a single lane, not a double, and he drives over the chevrons coming off the island.
I'd not have posted up my driving if it was like that.

I've not watched the video but knowing the posting history of the person in question, it comes as no surprise.

He's expecting it from the start, he states it's far too common, and takes it as a warning not to get alongside. His words on the video.
So either he still drives alongside anyway (why?) or the Focus was no where near him, as suggested by the fact strider doesn't seem to brake or swerve. The only reason the Focus swerves is strider sounds his horn aggressively just as the Focus turns.
As it's a single carriageway, why does strider think he can undertake on the left anyway?

On my initial viewing, I interpreted the change of 'speed of turn' at 8:41 24s as either a deceleration, change of course, or both.
Regardless, it would seem that Strider is expecting the Focus to go straight on so it could be argued he is looking for confrontation. However, if I was to tackle that same roundabout, I think I would have chosen Striders line of left hand side on approach and followed the island around, I certainly would not have drove the shortest distance between 2 points, i.e straight lined it, then breached the adjoining slip road from the left.
Drive defensive or drive aware, we're all different I suppose!

The only thing I can see wrong with Strider's driving in this video, apart from being possibly too close which is hard to tell with a dash cam? (they make everything look closer than they are due to being low down and forward), is the lack of indicating on exit. I'm basing that on the comments here as I watched it without sound.

However given he entered from the LHS it should be immediately obvious where he is going based on his positioning. Also there is nobody coming from the road to his left. We do not know if there was anyone behind him.

Assuming there was nobody behind him, it is not necessary for Strider to give a signal as you should only do this if there is somebody around to benefit from it (See the IAM manual, for example). The people who would benefit would be people joining from the left as they would need to stop at the give way line, and anyone behind him.
  • He should signal to exit the roundabout (if he didn't) as this would have benefited the traffic approaching from the exit he took.

It's a strange roundabout to be fair so anyone using it should be very careful and drive defensively.

On that island, with a filter from the left feeding into that exit, any car taking striders line has to move over on the exit to take the focus' line, as the lhs lane disappears.
If you assume Strider knows the island as he says he does, he doesn't make a good job of staying out of trouble, knowing what will happen.

And that's exactly how they do it at this roundabout/island, it's obviously different in size and location, but the aerial shot highlights the same issue.
Coming from the North on the B9130 and going straight on to the A921 is similar to Striders video, on approach the B9130 has lanes and arrows but it has been said on these very forums that arrows DO NOT have to be obeyed.

Thing is styder no one gets brownie points from critising other drivers behaviour, Show an example and display exemplory driving and you will get the vote.

To be honest it's a bit far off at present;)

  • Strider unfortunately posts videos of other drivers poor driving(sometimes quite correctly) that show up his own shortcomings as an aware and considerate driver.

If we are honest we all make mistakes, but do not put Youtube videos onlie showing our own shortcomings:D
