Hi, after searching online i found xpresspharmacy.co.uk to be the cheapest at £2.20 a tablet, they are 3 pence cheaper than anyone else i could find. I wish i didn't have to take malaria tablets! :)

generally speaking malarone is only prescribed privately, unless you have a very generous doctor they will prescribe it on the NHS otherwise they are not meant to.

Superdrug £2.10 per tab based on 58 tabs. Not on line - just phone the local shop and they will order for next day. No problemo.

For my recent visit to Tanzania, I bought Doxycycline...tablets from Lloyds Pharmacy for about 12p each (with prescription from GP) ......both myself and partner suffered no side effects - no skin sensitivity.... and will take them in the future.... worth chatting to your pharmacist... :-)

Think depends what you are doing and where you are staying when you get to your destination. I was advised to take Larium - about £2.50 per tablet as i was bush camping in Tanzania so wasn't enclosed in a hotel all day.

I'm just in the process of getting mine, and Superdrug is still the cheapest @ £2.10 per tab on Private Prescription.

Second to that is Lloyds Pharmacy online and places like chemist direct which is £2.24 per tab.

Over the counter at Tesco and Sainsburys are around the £2.50 mark.

Hopefully I won't get too many side affects?! Sounds like the best of a bad bunch really! :)

    Stratford Pharmacy 2.45. totalpharmacy 2.23. Asda 2.50. Morrisons 2.51. xpresspharmacy2.22. Lloyds Chemists online 2.24. Superdrug 2.28. Pharmplexdirect 2.63. Brennans 2.18.

Beware of any internet site selling drugs at well below everyone else's price. It is usually a scam (see if they sell viagra too - that usually gives them away).

Last time I bought from Boots, the online price was substantially less than the in store price. I now can't seem to get a price online without entering all my details. I'm not going to bother. I think it's Brennans for me.

Someone suggested doubling your alleged trip time to get two lots for the price of one prescription (in that you need to pay a doc to get the private prescription). Bear in mind that you need to take 1 day before exposure and 7 days after and that the maximum recommended time to take for is 28 days. So the doubling up only works on a trip of 6 days or less.

To look at maps to advise which anti-malarial to take in which country, go to the scottish nhs site - this site won't allow me to post a link, but search on fitfortravel and you'll find it.
