The bags are now off
Is the speed limit on this road 70 then, I thought it was 60 too
noticed that the bags are off. One camera is missing from the first set at the top of the hill. Are they working yet anyone?
Its definately a 70mph, see previous page for 2 links to highway code.0 -
It was on UTV live about a year ago about the cameras in question.
As already mentioned above they are only supposed to be trials and no prosecution.
I remember those accidents, personally I dont think it will have an effect, they are more of a distraction. Those signs that light up and tell you to slow down are more effective.
I know of people who got caught speeding on that stretch as you come off the bottom of the hill and approach Ballybeen.
Yet another easy target on the law abiding motorists of North Down,
Why dont they stick the cameras in other areas where they would be less welcome.
I always flash the lights to warn advancing motorists..... no officer I mean I was testing my main beam
Whats that 30mph on the Newtownards Road as you go past Stormont all about?......... Its a joke, who does 30mph on a dual lane A road???
keep her lit and keep her safe

I find a fool-proof way of never getting caught speeding is to sit at or just below the speed limit. Try it, it really works!Stercus accidit0

These cameras are the average speed ones and have been in use in the Newry area on the road to Dublin for about a year now.
Has anyone noticed the new cameras in and around Belfast (York Street at the Westlink and just over the Bridge heading past the Odyssey turn off towards the Sydenham Bypass)? These are the new red light cameras, which will supposedly photograph drivers who go through the lights after they turn red.
Regarding Road tax cameras, these are everywhere. They're just beside the fixed digital speed cameras on the Saintfield Road, Newtownards Road and Sydenham Bypass, but are also in many other places like outside Whiteabbey and Ballynahinch Police Stations for instance.
And they said Big Brother (the book, not the rubbish TV programme) was a work of fiction..............Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0 -
I didn't know there were red light jumper cameras. Jumping red lights is a newish thing. I remember that it was commonplace when I was driving in Dublin some years ago but was unusual here. It must be a behaviour that is linked to an increase in traffic congestion.
It's easy money for the government. Keep to the rules of the road and keep your money in your own pocket.Stercus accidit0 -

Just because I may creep over the speed limit doesnt make me a criminal.
What about all the cowboy motorists that have no tax and insurance from certain areas of Belfast??
My point.......... as iterated by Iris Robinson of Robinsonville (Dundonald) is: there is a disproportionate amount of cameras in the Co.Down area compared to any other county/area.
I have a copy of the front page of the Telegraph entitled - 'where the cameras will be', It has a map of N.I. showing positions of all cameras (mobile and static) There is one camera in Tyrone for example
Back to the Ards carriageway issue (which by definition is a rural carriageway) if you look at link below page 22
http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/speedmanagement/dftcircular106/dftcircular106newguidanceons4799
Legally, I can do 70mph on that stretch of road, take a turn into any of the B-rural roads leading off it and I can do 60mph.......... That's just insane, according to link above 46% of accidents occur on rural roads.
I would quite happily drive at 80mph on the carriageway but personally I insist on driving at 50mph on the B-roads.
You see I am a conscientious driver
