  • Hello.
I recentely bought this mp3 player and found that it was fine for transfering music, but films are a different story. I tried to download the utilities version 3.61 off the links given here, but found, like many people, that the files contained a trojan. The anti-virus that I have deleted the whole file. The problem is that the computer thinks that it is installed, so when i tried to install a different version again, the computer wont let me. I have tried to uninstall the corrupted version, but as all files associated with it have been deleted, it wont let me. It seems that it is stuck on the system. Does anone know of a way to remedy this?
    Thanks.
  • Hi Luddite, I had that problem too but found the answer on the forum in one of the links above. It involves editing the registry files and deleting all files associated with the mp3 utility, which sounds very scary if you're a non-techy like me, but the step by step instructions on the site are really good.
  • I have still not managed to download films for this gadget - as despite everyones help I couldn't identify which link I needed to remove the faulty download form my computer and then I wouldn't know what to download next. I wonder if I could return this as it does not work as stated? What do you think? In fact I would not have even known about need to download any other files had it not been for members here. There is no mention of it in the box or instructions.

    From the forum links above:
awdang, To uninstall it you need to delete the folder from the Program Files folder then open regedit and got to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. You will find a series of subfolders with alpha numeric names like this !!7784A172-61F1-445E-8368-601607E0DD22} click on each one until you find the entry related to MP3 Player Utilities 3.68 displayed in the right panel, then delete this folder.

Then do the same here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\
You should now be able to install a new version.

An easier way might be to download ccleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com and click on the tools and uninstall from there.

As to the 'trojan' I'd guess that some virus scanners are a little bit over enthusiastic - again from the forum linked earlier.

It looks as if the original release code contained the equivalent of a Del *.* command - probably for deleting any temp files it created on install. The problem there is, of course, what happens if you execute that command outside of the directory it should be run in - its a risk. The designation of the detection by Kaspersky as Found not-a-virus:RiskTool.Win32.Deleter.b pretty much sums up the issue, it's not a virus but is a risky bit of code.
They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.

Bought one of these this week for the above price from the same source. This is an excellent bit of kit for the price and sounds good thro the phones provided.
One question though....I had the FM option on the menu until I upgraded the firmware as described above. Now the FM option on the menu had gone. Any ideas?
