Some quick thoughts...have you anything to sell at somewhere like cashconverters, anyone at all to support and feed you for a few days?

Some local churches can help with food parcels etc.

Please don't be put off asking for help, and don't be put off by some of the more unhelpful posters here.

There is help out there, you have to be proactive though and get out there and ask. On monday apply for a crisis loan and see CAB asap.

For the record I read recently that middle class home owners were having to access food parcels themselves as redundancies and work dries up, they cannot sell their houses and they don't qualify for benefits so this situation can happen to anyone.

Thanks for the reply, your right in that I don't want to ask mainly because I feel like there are more needy people than me, such as the elderly and homeless who may need help more but there is two churches near me, I will ask them to see if they can provide some food parcels. I read the article you posted and I am actually shocked that this happening alot more than I thought, especially middle class people, to be honest I think it just shows what trouble this country is in :(

If you have left education recently it may be that your mother will continue to be given child benefit until the first Monday in September, after which you can claim. IS or JSA.

This is to stop students claiming from the minute their exams finish in the Summer until they start other courses in September. Otherwise every student in the country would "sign on" in June and then decide to go back to education in September having been a benefit claimant in the Summer.

Once the baby arrives, you will have your own claim with a dependent but until then you are just another student finishing college.

    From that article
In one heartbreaking case a 10-year-old boy was arrested for stealing food to feed his two younger !sisters.

Why are these childrens' parents spending their childrens' welfare payments (Child Tax Credits and Child Benefit) on themselves!

It's time for the schools to take over the children's welfare payments to ensure this money goes where it is meant to go; on the child.

RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

    Good luck Chelsea!
No, he wasn't planned but I was on the pill which failed on me and to be honest I did consider an abortion but couldn't go through with it. I am trying to think in the most positive light and I think I can provide a good future for my son as I have been offered a job from a family friend but of course, he won't employ me until I have had the baby as I'm only fit for work for another 2 weeks. It is just this rough patch between now and the 6th June in which I am struggling. I suppose its just a case of scrimping and scraping in the long run...

You can't claim for a child that isn't living with you.

    Hi Chelsea

I am afraid that I don't have any new advice for you, other than what other people have posted on here.

I am mother of three (now 19, 16 and 14), who has been a lone parent for the last 11 years, due to a violent, alcoholic, ex-husband, who has never supported his children either emotionally or financially.

Yes, you are going through a rough patch and it is hard work bringing up children. No doubt, there will be more tough times ahead.

But, I just wanted to say, hang in there, the rewards of bringing up children do overshadow the hard times.

Just wanted to offer some words of support :)

Just wanted to wish you luck. I got pregnant with my little girl when I was 18 and it was a dreadfully hard time. She wasn't planned and I too did think about an abortion but she's 3 now and I thank god that I didn't. She means the whole world to me and I've been through the mill these last few years with homelessness and being skint but I know have a really good job and another little boy.

My point is times will be tough but you'll get through them and your little one will be the light of your life. I hope you can get some support. x

    Chelsea,

I think if need to get in touch with connexxions asap, they are far more up to date on what you can do than CAB will be as they specialise in 13-19 yrs olds

    they have a website : https://www2.cxdirect.com/home.htm

you can call, or even webchat with them.

ok yes you aren't in a ideal situation, having a baby, being young, with your partner having to care for his Gran, but when IS life ideal for anyone?

problem to me thats more urgent is making sure you have the means to feed yourself & growing babe, keep healthy in prep for the birth. Keep safe & warm. their will always be people angry when it comes to benefits, its a sensitive subject, try not to take it personally.

this could be an opportunity for you to learn to stand on your own 2 feet so to speak, once babe is born, it might be worth contacting the sure start centre (if there is one near you), they are very useful, I had to visit one as a part of my work. not only can you get advice from other mums, they have jobcentre advisers in there too, and there are lots of courses,NVQs etc that if you wanted you could do. you can put babe in their creche whilst you learn also.

whatever you decide to do, just please try connexxions asap ok? I truly hope you get sorted tonight. take care
