Fantastic news Muhren. And don't feel guilty. Your parents love you and wanted to help you. Simple as that.

Don't splash out on a holiday for them. That's not what they want.

Buy your mum a proper bunch of flowers.......not from a garage forecourt please. But don't waste money having a bouquet delivered, the flowers will be half dead. Just buy some really nice flowers. Then maybe buy your dad a bottle of his favourite tipple, maybe a good malt if he is a whiskey man.

if you want to have a celebration then take them out - but go as a family. They don't want your money, they want you. Maybe a trip to the cinema or theatre followed by supper. Treats dont t have to be wildly extravagant, an "event" film followed by a cheeky Nandos is about the right level of spend. A holiday would definitely be overkill and definitely not in keeping with the new fiscally intelligent new you! :rotfl:

The cheque from HMRC should cover that little lot quite nicely.:rotfl:

Karma - you are so right and wise. What our elderly parents want is us, our company and maybe a little help round the house with the jobs they can no longer manage with ease.

Even when I was skint I would often take my mum some flowers - sometimes I would raid my garden - those were the ones that really gave her pleasure because I had grown them. Sometimes I would just bundle her up and take her to a garden centre for a coffee and a mooch round looking at the plants. She loved that. When she was too ill or if the weather was too cold To go out I would arrive with Danish pastries and we would sit and look at the family photo albums and she would reminisce.

Seriously Muhren your parents don't want your money or any grand gestures, maybe just the pleasure of your company nkw and again. The satisfaction they got in being able to help you is all the reward they need.

I'm away for a few days from tomorrow - staying with a friend. It will be fun, even better if the weather were to perk up.

    Hi All,

Back from Thailand and it was amazing. Ive had a good break, looked at things afresh and seen a whole new way of life over there.

Anyway we are on a good footing now, yes we still have finance on cars etc BUT we have no credit card debt, no debts by way of outstanding bills etc and have money sat in the bank.

We are now knuckling down to save for a deposit for a BTL and get rid of the last niggly bits on my fellas credit report as he will be able to get a mortgage based on his earnings once we iron out the last bits.

We have almost 5k saved already and projected to have another couple by December with the view we are looking to purchase dec-jan then I can oversee/complete any work jan/feb then get it rented by march

Another option I want to look at is 'purchase option' where you pay a premium to take on someone elses mortgage then in 5 yrs or however look you can either purchase, give it up or whatever...
But you basically make the mortgage payments, take on any repairs etc and get the rental income

Thanks LL. I am thinking that I am going to take them out for a nice meal, I have a couple of places in mind to take them, one of which I know doesn't good food, the other is more about the location.

I had another cheque through from HRMC yesterday for £75 plus my car tax refund of £175, so all in all it has been a good couple of weeks with payday in there as well.

Burnt out is not the word. Been feeling a bit down last few days but think it's a mix of lack of sleep and non stop working.

Someone bought 165 products outright from me (usually people would message and ask for a discount) giving me £200 profit for a few hours work...crazy. I also had an order of 150 a couple days before (but probably 10% of the other orders profit) - so along with that and two weddings to edit it's been a bit crazy.

Need to get a better grip on finances, it's been a lot better this month but need to keep on track.

So lovely to hear your all doing so well!!

I decided to try out a new freelance writing website and managed to land a $300 and $50 contract already, which I've just completed! I'm hoping the work continues to come in

Hello everyone. 1st May so Happy New Month.......:rotfl:

Tink great to hear from you. Glad to hear things going so well and that you,had such a good time in Thailand. You,can't beat a good break for heLping you see things More clearly. I often get my best ideas when I take a break or have a holiday.

I have just come back from staying a fe days with a new friend I met on the cruise. It was only a mini break but I have Come back completely rested, revitalised and raring to go, bursting with Ideas and now have a much clearer focus on what my next steps need to be.

TBH I was starting to feel tired, fuzzy round the edges and rather fed up with my lack of progress. I was beginning to feel rather frustrated but the little break has fired me up again.

    Watch this space....

Burn out is not good........Kaya - perhaps a mini break would help you too

Me and my Husband have been talking today and I've mentioned it a few times but going to be getting rid of my eBay, but I've decided officially in Jan 2017 - I just need to get this 2k loan paid back and after the Xmas rush hopefully it should be done with and anything I have left to pay I should be able to afford to do so. The loan has just gone under the 2k mark (as I had to pay a set fee) so it's nice to know I've made a dent and anything I pay off now is going straight off the original loan.

Also, my eldest will be in full-time school from Sept and my youngest I'm planning on sending him to a childminder 1 day a week from September - this giving me extra time for my degree and eBay during the Xmas rush then I'll up it to two days once we get free childcare from Jan 2017 - so as of Jan 2017 I'll have no eBay and 2 days off a week without it costing us anything.

It will be a bit of an adjustment but I'm at the end of my tether with it. Just going to get through the next few months and it will be the start of a new chapter...I'm actually going to have some free time!!

We are away sometime at the end of May, so at least I have a holiday to look forward to. Gutted I had to turn down a really nice wedding for the Sat we came back but can't be helped...

Kaya - can't believe how fast your little ones are growing, one at full time in school in september:eek: where does the time go.

I think you will find a huge difference to your life once you have a couple of days a week to yourself and are able to get on with things. Probably a good idea to k kick the e ah in the head too if you can the you can focus on more lucrative work and your studies.

I've done my spending forecast for May  it's really not looking very pretty. I have had to transfer a dollop out of my savings. Oh well hopefully this will be the last heavy month and I can make a fresh start next month and start replenishing the coffers. As I mentioned I'm going to aim to save 50 per cent of my net income so that will mean tightening the belt again.

However, what I really need is to start bringing more money in. Simply shaving the budget isn't going to get me that £1m........:rotfl:

I saw a flat on rightmive over the weekend and went to have a look at it today as I had a day off work. The idea would be to keep my house rented out and move into the flat, I think it would be doable.

LL could I ask for your thoughts on this via pm as that was what you use to do for a living? I understand if you don't feel comfortable doing that but though I would put it out there!
