I appear to be about to start the 'spend money to make money' phase!

The house is coming on well, we've got a lot stripped out and had a very exciting moment yesterday when we took the plasterboard off the kitchen wall and uncovered a massive fireplace (and by massive, I mean, it takes up about two-thirds of the wall!). It's blocked up with rubble and cement, but subject to one crack in the side of the surround being fixable without causing a structural problem, we should be able to open it up and make it the focal point of the room. I am REALLY hoping there's an identical one at the other end of the house in the living room!

Anyway, the roofer will be starting in about three weeks, so that's when the bills will start pouring in, but before that, I may have to buy 20 sheep in a bit of a hurry. Very long story, but basically as a new entrant to farming I only have 12 months to claim my Basic Payment otherwise I lose it forever, and if I'm not grazing my share of the common grazings to a minimum livestock density (0.05 livestock units per hectare) then I'm not considered an active farmer and they won't give me any Basic Payment at all. This is supposed to be stock on my land on 1st March, but as I was only granted the tenancies on 29th Feb and didn't actually complete on the purchase until 11th March, the rural consultant who is guiding me through this total minefield of a system is going to check with the powers that be if sheep purchased now would be acceptable (and again, we have a good case, as the period for the SUSS scheme, where farmers get an extra payment for a certain density of homebred ewe hoggs grazing poor quality hill land has just come to an end and there are a LOT of last year's ewe lambs for sale right now).

So I may be about to fork out four figures on sheep, but it means that I get about £1,500 a year instead of £0 (or £1,000 for just my fields if I can lease my grazing share away for a year - you can't just not mention it on the form), and they'll give me four or five years of lambs before I need to sell them on to kinder fields (a North Country Cheviot ewe, sold off hill ground as a five-year-old, will have lambs for another four or five years at least on good pasture, so they retain some value), so hopefully this will be a worthwhile investment.

Wll done, Muhren. i meant to report the post then got sidetracked.....the phone went.

Just noticed your signature. You are almost debt free. Fantastic achievement.:T:T

Not much happening here, just off to the dentist in a minute:( what makes it worse of course is that you have to pay for the privilege of being tortured. :rotfl:

I also have Physio and chiropodist this week. My husband used to joke that the older I get the more high maintenance I become.

The good news - nice little win on the premium bonds this morning.

Caz - exciting times. Hope you meet your deadline for the sheep.

Thanks LL. My sig is a bit misleading though, I have been paying the money back to my folks who cleared my debt for me. They have been paying the interest for me to enable me to pay it back quicker so I will have to pay that back on top of what I borrowed, so in reality I still have a few thousand to go. I just don't know how much it is yet, but think it is around £6k.

Oh well.....still you have come a long way Muhren. Feel proud.

Bad news. Need 4 fillings tomorrow. plus of course my reconstructive facial surgery on Thursday which is not covered by the NHS or medical insurance because it is considered "cosmetic" so yep, as I suspected, it looks like April is going to be one very expensive month.

Hey ho.........after the wedding I will have to knuckle down and start making some serious dosh.:rotfl:

Ouch, LL, thats not good :( certainly puts a damper on moneymaking, or it would for me, anyway :(

Hope it goes as well as it can - let us know when you feel up to it.

Caz - I'd love my own sheep - they have such interesting eyes, don't they!

Muhren - its just "plodding on" with it, isn't it really :( but we can all still have fun along the way.

I get confused sometimes between sorting things out so I can work better at home and doing the actual work sometimes :o plus everything I do (like clearing the desk drawers) seems to have a knock on effect (like clearing the stack of papers *on* the desk). That's proving to be not too bad, actually, but there's still no actual moneymaking going on :o my house is going to be very clear, though :D

That's what I'm finding too on my massive clearing binge. I decide to tidy a cupboard and when I come to put stuff away find that the place I'm putting them needs a good sort out too. Still one area at a time for me is still progress - slow progress - but progress.

In the first small cupboard there was some camera stuff that was no longer needed so that netted me £300 on eBay - not a bad start, and an incentive to keep tidying.

I also discovered a small box full of craft stuff - so instead of just throwing it out, or putting it back - I've decided to turn it into saleable stuff. Christmas things (I know it's early, but it will take me a while to get things together for a Christmas stall). The only problem is going to be finding somewhere to store the finished items whilst I'm trying to clear the house.

No news is good news I hope ? :)

Had a bit of a clear out and spending spree that I mentioned previously, before the new tax year and sold my 2nd camera and a lens to replace it with a different 2nd camera and macro lens (finally)

Hopefully, my foot is through the door on financial freedom. Right now we are struggling slightly because the CC got to high last month and we've had a lot of things to pay out for - but as of now I have no more business stuff to invest (well a small portion but given the 8k or so I have spent I will most likely be needing to spend under 1k this year ) so any profit that comes in this year can be put towards what we like.

I've been doing some studying of my own back on the books I bought and it's making me re-think things in my own business already. I'm sure this is going to help me push forward in more ways than one.

I tried to take a day off Wed but it didn't go well, won't be trying that one again. I like being busy not necessary working but being productive like cleaning the house, studying (whether it be photography related to) and I can't just sit down and do nothing for long. I wanted to watch my program and put my feet up all day but ended up with my laptop on my knee..oh well.

Got to get some bits sold and keep clearing out the house - it's hard because of bin space and it's sad but I won't go to the tip in the week as the reverse parking scares me..I'm not a confident driver.

Time to get a rein on these finances and move up..
