You made a profit on your qualifier??? Thats amazing! usually expect to lose 5%!
Yay I am a genius!
(or the odds matching thing was)...
I have to do my free bet next, but I think I am going to look at it tomorrow, don't want to rush and make a stupid mistake due to my excitement.0 -
lessonlearned wrote: »Yes ive read this, it's one of my favourites. As a matter of fact it's my current bedtime reading. I moved a chest of drawers yesterday and it had fallen behind so I thought I would reread it.....I wondered where it had got to.
I have just ordered some interior design books and doing up furniture books Some for me some as a little present for DS1s fianc!e. We will no doubt end up sharing them.....I also bought some books on restoring old buildings for DS1.
Not quite as naughty as it sounds, they all cost £0-01 each from a certain well known retailer beginning with A.. I know you can borrow them, in fact some of them I have already read, but at the price I think they are good to have and refer to when necessary. with postage they are still cheaper than a glossy magazine.
I now get my magazine fix from the library.
Finished. I should have got more books! I do have a rather thicker one on stock markets so will get started on that tomorrow. Off out to frolic in the sun today!
the rules of wealth, although enjoyable and an easy read seems to me more of a book for someone just starting out. It gives no real answers more about making you ask questions and do your own research. Fair enough, but i felt that most of the subjects were brushed over and almost presented in a comic book style. Common sense, but more bones than meat if you know what i mean?
don't want to poo poo a book that you have as one of your favourites. I did enjoy reading it but feel that it just talked about what I already mostly think. It didn't really open my eyes to new ideas. still worth a read to anyone who hasn't tried, especially when its free from the library.0 -
Biscuits - I know what you mean about the Rules of Wealth, it's what I call a primer. Theres no real nitty gritty but I do think it's great for beginners in that it gives food for thought. I bought it for my son, more in desperation than hope, and that, plus the free seminar, seemed to be the turning point for him.
Mind you, I think he was "ready for, change" so maybe it was more about the Timing than the content. I dip I to it for motivation from time to time.
a real eye opener, I think, is the Millionaire Next Door, but it is rather wordy and they do rather labour the point at times, especially when they seine on anout the American car industry. There is no way my DS wpuld have ploughed his way through that one.......
Well you lot would have proud of me yesterday.
I haven't had a Proper holiday since 2005, the year my husband first became symptomatic. We did go away a few times in the early days of his illness to our apartment in Spain, but I was still his carer and looking after him so it was never a completely relaxing real holiday.
Well yesterday I was sorely tempted by a Caribeam cruise for next winter. I even rang them up to haggle. I managed to knock them down by £150" but in the end I decided it was too frivolous at this stage.
So I stuck by my new mantra of "Delayed gratification" and I have promised myself I can go on holiday when I have lost half of the weight I need to lose........:rotfl:
Not quite as bonkers as it sounds. I don't like to complain but I have struggled with the heat, my own fault for allowing myself to become such a baby elephant.:o
Last night I brought the beans in, so the slugs turned their attention to my Gazanias (think that's what they are called). Horrid creatures.
No money earned, but no money spent - so I doing ok.
It's my birthday on Monday - 64 and the boys have been plotting.......
Should be fun?....0 -
I wasn't really a fan of rules of wealth either but each to their own, I've been reading money mustache lately, I just can't really get on board with him but he does know what he is talking about.
I think he's not really aimed for me, he even said it himself his blog is aimed at people that have a good income but are spending it willy nilly, where as my income is quite low and it would be impossible to even save 20% of our income plus he is saying don't spend this now you will be rich later but life isn't all about money and their he is saying whenever he eats at a meal he is comparing how it benefits him and I just...well I couldn't live like that but all the same they are interesting reads.
The stock market keeps creeping in the back of my head, not even enough to really think about it but once I have built up some excess funds I will want to start putting money into investments...but I'll not worry about that for now.
My OH has been put into supervisor training, not sure when it will start but basically they want him to be head of his division (hold on not as fancy as it sounds haha)
Basically the business is huge and they are all broken up into separate areas, and he would be the senior sales person for his area but he would still be working under his manager, but their are 6 other depots in the area and he would basically guide their sales people, and cover manager hoildays....this is where it gets a bit scary for me as it means he could be down in London for a week at a time...I will support him but same time I'm very much not wanting him to spend a lot of time away from home...but hopefully it will just be a week here a week their IF it even happens because his boss was talking with his boss and he even said this guy has a young family he doesn't want to be travelling the company...so perhaps it's only an idea but the Senior position would still apply.
They basically have told him that he is the best one in his area (in all the depots) and they are really impressed with him...but all of the above they say 2 years but I have a feeling it will be sooner and looking to make him a manager in 5-10.
The problem in this business once you start getting to higher levels they just expect you to travel the country at a moments notice...
Either way, I just have to support what he wants to do I guess.
Edit: When I say 'area' I don't mean area like London I mean by area of the business which they have depots all over the country for that area as well as others, just wanted to clear that up.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Hope you have a good birthday LL!! Proud? No go on bloody holiday!! It's good for you :-)
I always say things like that but I think if you are not in mind set to lose the weight no amount of 'you can have this if you do this' will help...that said if you are in mind to then perhaps it would help! (I'm not making sense again am I?)People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I think the point of all these books, seminars, you tube videos etc is that not all of them are going to appeal to all of us. I certainly don't take them as gospel. I take what I want or what I feel is relevant for me
I also dip Into Mr Moneymoustaches blog, it's interesting but obviously not all of it is applicable to my life. I also read a few frugal living blogs.
A lot of them are a bit too "hair shirt" for my tastes. I'm afraid that whilst I am to happy to re use and recycle etc I do like to live in comfort.
Good news about your OH and his job. They obviously think highly of him.
Re him working away, I'm afraid it's just the way these things are. My OH often did, especially when he went contracting. The boys were in school and we felt it wrong to disrupt their education and their lives.
Try not to panic. You'll find a way of working round it. My way was to ensure that everything got done during the week so OH could just come home and enjoy family life and not worry about Shopping, diy etc.
Kay - don't worry I will definitely take a holiday soon. I will enjoy it even more when I slim, fit and healthy and able to wear lots of fabulous glamourous clothes.......:rotfl:
Today I am going to be a domestic goddess, going to cook up a storm.....I have not been buying cake and DS2 is feeling deprived so I'm going to do some "healthy baking".0 -
LL have a great birthday Monday, in fact, this is your birthday weekend go and treat yourself to something nice today... Even if its something frivolous like posh tea and cakes somewhere!
don't want to sound like a grumpy pants, but make sure you have the legal expenses extra on your home insurance. The contract cover on it will be valuable if you are buying expensive holidays and something goes wrong. Usually about £20 for a years cover.
as for investing in the stock market, i only recently started after i had everything else sorted. Cash buffer and short term money targets need to be covered before you start thinking long term.
I have a friend who lives hand to mouth,no savings and came to me foe advice on share picking. He was very dissapointed with the boring advice i gave him on filling up the 5% tsb accounts first and actually later down the line probably best to ignore shares for funds. Zzz0 -
Birthday weekend. You betcha.
Lunch tomorrow followed by Cinema tomorrow night to see Minions.
Posh Italian restaurant on Monday night, nice lunch on Tuesday. bang goes the diet ......:rotfl:
Yes we've got legal insurance on house contents, but yes that's a great tip, thanks.
Your advice to your friend was sound, but I guess he was looking for something a bit more exciting, a get rich quick scheme perhaps.
And we all know enough now to avoid those don't we.:rotfl:0 -
Happy Birthday for Monday, LL
Even the slow and steady schemes can be as bad as the get rich quick schemes - I bought the French apartment because it was a government sponsored slow way forward, with a gross return promised of 4% p.a. - how wrong can you be :rotfl: I'm over the trauma of it now, but everywhere I turn, there it is, as the saying goes
Happy Birthday for the long weekend, actually, LL :j:j:j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Let me know what you think about Minions hoping to go see it after payday but wondering if all the hype is really worth it :-)
Haha yes it probs the best advice, tbh I don't know if it's as much as you'd suggest but as I say my next step is 2k EmFund that I just won't touch, then anything on top *should* be play money I am hoping to pull in £2k profit over Nov/Dec alone so come Jan I should have some time free to actually start doing something or carry on forward to raise the 7k by Apr (but as we are already in July this is becoming more of a dream then a calculated reality but the wedding really did set us back...)
Anyway I am rambling again and I only popped on to read the updated posts!! Ugh...lolPeople don't know what they want until you show them.0
