The 20k is spread across quite a few different areas. For example 1k is a kitchen I had to have put in my rental property when it was trashed.i did a deal with a friend who is a kitchen fitter which means he is in no rush to get the money and I help him out at a discounted rate when he needs decorating doing and recommend him to people.
The biggest ones are 2 personal loans totalling 7000 but neither bank will refinance and consolidate and due to being self employed with very little profit(actually made a big loss last year due to problems)
On the plus side, 1 is down to 2300 the other I have been paying extra off.
As I say things aren't as tight now and I have actually just had to have 2 days off due to being ill but ive had the luxury of being able to take the time off without panicking about money.
All debtors have had some paid off so are all happy that payment is trickling through and a large amount have even said I have paid more than expected.
Having diversified and taken in lodgers my home is safe and my children are happy..everything else is by the by haha
My rental property was wrecked I think I talked of it but just before Xmas I advertised it at half price rent for 6 months with a view that work needed doing.got some nice tenants that moved in in December, their rent just scraped to cover mortgage and as I say ive called in favours for a new kitchen, got a cheap shower cubicle, negotiated that tenants got new flooring themselves etc.its still cost around 5000 to get elec and gas tested, items replaced etc but tenants are happy and want to stay long term.they have just signed another 6 months at 75% of normal rent as things took a bit longer than planned.trainee millionaire (aka not there yet!)0 -
Tink, well done you for being able to hold on to the BTL ... and the deals that you cut to do it, sounds like everyone benefits, thats best of all.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Tink - Sounds like you've been "thinking outside the box" :rotfl:
Anyway glad to hear that you've got it all under control. Sounds like you've turned a corner.
Today ive been going through some boxes. Found a hoard of foreign currency, pre Euro, and bags of old coins, plus some stamps that my husband had collected. I'll need to get them valued and then decide what to do with it all.
My but both my mum and my husband were a right pair of hoarders. I am having to go through everything with a fine tooth comb. I know I haven't found all mums jewellery yet. I suppose it was the dementia but I found diamond rings in tea cups at the back of a kitchen cupboard, her ruby necklace stuffed in the back of a drawer. It all takes time and it's a very difficult and emotional process.
Last week I sold some trench art. These were old WW1 bomb casings made of brass that the soldiers used to carve to while away the time when they were stuck in the trenches. My husband's grandfather had carved them and they were really lovely but my sons didn't want them so I let them go. It's a shame but you just can't hang on to everthing.
At least coins, old bank notes and stamps are not personal and have no sentimental value so parting with them is easy. It's the personal stuff that is difficult to sift and sort through.
I'm not selling any of mums jewellery. I have divided that up between my sister, her daughter and myself, with a few items given to a couple of close friends of the family.
Lord knows what we are going to do with all the China, porcelain etc There's far too much to keep so I think again I'll have to get it valued and take it from there.
And there are boxes and boxes of papers, files etc...... Just when I had got on top of my husbands papers, business accounts etc, dad has asked me to take over his affairs because he can't face it any more. Bless him he is 89. I think he deserves a rest from it all now so I don't mind.
Hey ho......at least my affairs are all in order now. If I pop my clogs the boys know what to do and where everything is....:rotfl:0 -
Hello everyone, can I join?
I was pointed in the direction of the thread by Karmacat! :hello: I'm looking more at early retirement and simple living, as I'm documenting through my blog. However, to retire early means having the money to do it!
Have been reading with interest over the last couple of days, so thought I would say helloBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Thanks Tinktay _ you are very kind. I dont consider myself anything special but I think I'm one of those people who, when their backs are against the wall, do come out fighting.......My Life took a turn for the worse, and after a little bit of a mope and a bit of feeling sorry for myself I just realised that it was up to me.
My husband and I had always been a great team, and he had always been a great tower of strength for me, supporting me and encouraging me, helping me grow and develop, being my mentor and biggest cheerleader and fan. When he became sick we had to change roles. I dug deep and found my inner lioness. I had to, I had no choice, so I just stepped up to the plate.
Anyway, I survived and am here to tell the tale.
But, heres the thing - I didn't do it alone.
I found MSE just in the nick of time. Like many I saw Martin on the TV and was intrigued, then bought the books and finally discovered his website and the forums. As they say in all the best stories, the rest is history.....
The forums have been great, ive learned so much. But it is this thread, the one that you started, Tink, that got me really fired up and which has helped keep me motivated. You were the one who started it all, so it's YOU who inspired me......:rotfl:
I know that the last couple of years have been tough for you and for that I'm sorry. But........ You didn't give up, you've fought back.
The worst is hopefully over now and you can start the rebuild. If I can do it anyone can. It's not always easy but, if you can hold on to your optimism and joire de vie, then you can ride out the worst of storms.
I do miss my husband and there isn't a day that goes by when I wish that he was still with me, sharing my triumphs and disasters. I miss our "end of the day" chats, the impromptu phone calls when he would always end the conversation asking what we were having for dinner,:rotfl:
Luckily I have my boys, my sister and now the prospect of a delightful daughter in law - just go to get a nice girl for DS2 now........
As Hemingway said "the world is still a mighty fine place". Happiness, contentment and fulfilment is there, waiting for all of us. You have your children to work for, to strive for and to protect, nurture and nourish. They will be your salvation. They will provide years of companionship, fun and laughter.
You are a lot younger than me, you've got years of living and loving ahead of you. One day a nice man will come along and sweep you off your feet. My husband came roaring into my life like a whirlwind just when I least expected to meet anyone. I was 31 and had more or less given up on any ideas of marriage and motherhood.
How wrong was I.:rotfl:
Keep an open mind and new opportunities will present themselves, keep an open heart and love and happiness will come your way.
Well today I have a shall be taking a car load to the tip - oh but my life is just so glamourous.........then later viewing a cottage which I know I will adore but im not sure I can afford. I'm waiting for my broker to ring me back with some numbers.
I mentioned I found a hoard of foreign currency and old coins yesterday, lurking among the boxes I'm working my way through.
What I really need is a couple of really valuable coins In there.........
Wouldn't that be nice.:rotfl:0 -

Good to see you back Tinktay, hope all goes well for you :T.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0
