Just dropping by to say hello and welcome to MrCrimeFiction. Sounds like you are off to a cracking start and only 21;)
I wish I had had your good sense at 21 - I would be a seriously wealthy woman now.:rotfl: Never mind you cant put the clocks back and ive no real regrets.
I don't think I would change my life, OH and I had a ball and I'm still young enough and fit enough to both have a good time and squirrel a bit away.
I'm doing far better with my make £5 a day challenge Than I imagined I would. I shall definitely sign up again next month. Writing down goals and making a committment really does help focus the mind.
Made a start on emptying mum and dads cottage this week. Little and often till its done. Other than that nothing really exciting. Have viewed a couple of properties but not quite what I'm after.
It's out there somewhere.......0 -
I am such an air head at times:rotfl:
Last week I did a full financial review and was a bit disappointed to discover that I did not appear to have as much money as I though I had. However I had had a lot of expenses, and an awful lot on my plate last year so I just assumed I had spent too much.
It has been niggling me all week so this morning I decided to double check my figures and realised that I do in fact have about £11k more than I thought.
I have triple and quadrupled checked it all and today's figures are right. Wahoo..
I never professed to be a maths whizz. In fact I suffer from a mild form of dyscalculia and columns of figures tend to have a nasty habit of dancing about the page ........;) which is why I tend to check and double check everything I do.
Anyway, alls well that ends well.
I've had a good week, and have managed to Add a little to my extra earnings total for January, so feeling happy enough with what I've achieved so far.
Other than that not much news, still decluttering both my own stuff and my parents house.
I've also managed to lose 4.1/2 lbs. I've got a long way to go before I rediscover my old svelte and athletic self but at ive made a start.
Very quiet on here - hope you are all well and keeping warm.
Have a good week, make lots of money.0 -
Thats a lot! I'm really glad you found it
I'm part of the quietness of the thread, sorry ... I'm keeping my head above water, just (it was a cause of celebration that I managed to sweep the floor yesterday, *and* wash my hair) but extras like starting new work, nope. I haven't even been able to take the pix that would enable me to get my book published onto kindle
I'm getting better slowly, but the tax return is the priority.
I wish everyone well!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Karma - sorry to hear thar you are still feeling below par. Jusrt take it easy and get lots of rest. I'm sure you will start to feel better once you have got that tax return out of the way. Things like that tend to weigh rather heavy don't they and dragyou down.
Spring is just round the corner.... In fact it's a beautiful mild day here now, there even seems to bE a bit of heat in the sun.
I had all sorts of plans for today but like you I just feel so tired most of the time. Everything seems such a huge effort and it's very slow progress. Never mind - we just need to keep plugging away.
I am going to force myself to walk to the local shop in a minute though and get a bit of fesh air and blow away the cobwebs, hopefully the walk will stretch my back a bit. I really must book a massage.
Take care, keep your chin up, all will be well.0 -

ive got 4.5k there.
you can put away double that if you have someone prepared to have a joint account with you.
after reading another thread on here ive found out you can open a 2nd tsb account but only until the end of this month. Mines up and running now but unfortunately currently empty until Fridays final payday. its not often you can get 5% returns with absolutely no risk.
every little helps!
in an effort to save a few quid this month ive joined the library. Pleasantly surprised to find a number of finance/ economical books. Tim hales smarter investing being one. A double win there. Getting knowledge for nothing. Definitely worth a read if you are either not currently an investor or invested previously and need a review of whether you are on track.0 -
Thanks LL, I appreciate it. I'm a lot better than I was - I just really have to remember to rest, and get a lot of sleep. Got to make a firm decision about when to do the healthy upkeep things during the day - supplements with breakfast, I suppose, a walk mid-morning, that sort of thing.
BB yes, come the end of this tax year, I'm definitely reviewing my investments, its necessary every so often.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Just a quick one from me, I hope you feel better KC.
Things are well. I checked my total business gross income for January this morning and I was pleasantly surprised it was sitting at £700...with the changes I had made, I would of expected to be lucky to pull in £500 in total this month but looks like I am still going strong (and making more money per sale to!)
My only concern is I don't have as much free time as I expected as I spend most mornings working and haven't had much time to catch up on the admin side.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Thanks Kaya, I appreciate it. Glad to know your business hasn't taken a hit after the changes you made. And once you set up a system for the admin, it could well get better - when I first became self employed, I just put all my receipts into a box - it took years, but I sort them as I go now, its much quicker.
I'm just finishing off the declarations on savings and dividends, and I'm good to go on 2013-14 tax2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
good day today.
bumper pay cheque including my redundancy payment. Its more than i managed to hold onto by the end of last year and takes me so close to hitting 100k net worth. (almost 10% there!!)
with a nice cushion behind me i can up pension contributions and start investing properly for potential early retirement. Some's going off the mortgage too.
going to aim to save 50% of my new job's salary but have a large cash buffer now (earning 5%) so if some months are tighter then i have no problem dipping in a little to that.
all of my co workers are pretty much spent up to the last penny on cars, new kitchens and gadgets with their payout... But im content. There's nothing i want or need.
could be a life changing amount if only because its changed my approach from just saving to investing for the future.
happy days0 -
Good morning Biscuits - that is fantastic news - and you are right it is a life changing amount. You can start to make dreams come true with that kind of money behind you.
And I have to say I commend your attitude and think your plans on how to invest rather than spend does you great credit. Our journey is all about delayed gratification, a little bit of discipline now will pay huge rewards.
Your colleagues who are frittering their money away on cars and kitchens are being very short sighted. They are not assets they are liabilities.
Can I ask you - are you managing to,get 5 per cent on all of the money. I am still trying to hunt down good accounts to move my money to but most of what I have found tend to have small maximum amounts.
the problem is I can't tie the money up, hopefully I will find either a property or land in the next few months so do need easy access.
Speaking of investments another 2 x £25 wins on the premium bonds this month. Not to be sniffed at:rotfl:
Also - Speaking of dreams coming true. It is my dream to build a house so I'm actively looking for land now..... Building from scratch is a bit of a scary thought but hey you only live once.;)
I do have half shares with my sister in a piece of land but so far we've been unable to obtain planning permission. I'll keep trying because even if we don't develop it, it's a good, sized plot and will be a lot more valuable as building land.
Its lousy weather here and my back is killing me so a quiet day Decluttering and tidying up.i have a Physio appt booked for Friday so hopefully will feel a bit better after that.
I'm cheesed off with the cold, weather. I know it's not been a particularly hard winter but I'm fed up with winter now. the novelty has worn off.
Never mind Spring is just round the corner and hopefully with it I shall have an energy surge.:rotfl:0
