My suggestion would be to go for WooCommerce which is an extension of the WordPress platform. Head over to ThemeForest and pick up a premium theme for £30-£40.
Magento is another great choice but not really ideal for a beginner.
Thanks nathand I have decided to go for opencart. I have been to ThemeForest but I am having trouble choosing trying to get something close to what I want so that I have fewer changes to make I am narrowing it down though so I am getting there

Gahhh I'm so impatience. My friend is getting her first rental property and I can't even see the finish line of getting mine. I'm happy for her I am, but days like today I just want to pack up my business sell up and take the money and start over...cause I know their must be more worth while businesses out their but whilst I am putting all my time into this one I won't see it......
I know I am just being stupid as I have two kids so even if I wanted to I can't go out and do it...works well for me being on eBay but I don't want to be 40 before I even can get started...
Although I am thinking that if I can find a business where it's just pack and go life would be so much easier!! As the business I have I have to make every product up as I go.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
I feel your pain, Kaya, I really do. For the very reason you describe, I've decided to concentrate on images that people buy on places like funky pigeon, where *I* don't actually do any work (I think!) other than uploading them ... I don't trust my health enough to be doing small-scale manufacturing at home, I really don't - not kids for me, but there you go
Maybe as this business of your matures, you can get somebody else to actually make the stuff, and then you'll focus on making the next business work?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Gah I lost my message now, I'm not sure what you mean about the funky pigeon thing, health is the one thing we take for granted I am sure you'll get their though :-)
But with tax and NI etc it wouldn't be worthwhile employing someone..if perhaps it was straight making the products I could manage but it's all the extra stuff customer service, packing artwork etc... which would push it under min wage.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Hi folks
I am sorry that you are feeling a bit down Kaya but you are a lot younger than myself and KC so you already have a head start on us and you are running your own business and OK having to produce the stuff is hardwork but when the kids are a bit older you will be able to branch out to a hopefully less hands on type of business but you will have experience of running a business already.
As for me I have a domain, a web host, I have pointed my domain at my web host and I am awaiting my SSH access verification does it sound like I know what I am doing :rotfl: haven't a clue but I am following a step by step video from my mentor so hopefully all will be well in the end :T
I have had last chosen my website template I have been a bit cross eyed over the last few days looking at loads but I like the look of this one just have to see if I can get it to work now

FunkyPigeon is a website where you can order cards, birthday cards etc - to be sent to you to sign and then send them on, or send them straight to the recipient, i.e. once the image is uploaded, there's no work at all by the "artist". I *haven't* checked if they're looking for new work, but there'll be other websites like that that *are* looking. Thats my theory, and I'm sticking to it
You've made a good start, Kaya, keep going on this - as the volume builds up, you'll find a solution - it may mean taking less of the money for yourself, but you'll build the volume even more, and start another business besides.
And DT is right about the age advantage you've got - you're only just over half my age, tbh - LL too! You must be exhausted, though, especially with all the other demands on your time - hope you can get enough sleep to recharge really soon.
DT the computer stuff is great newsgood for you.
I spent yesterday evening listing all the different types of card ranges I wanted to produce - ahem, there are a couple of dozen, though they may end up amalgamated _pale_ but anyway, the one for now is the silhouettes - there are 7  - curled up sleeping, sideways face, full image walking, frontal face, three quarters sitting, and a paw printNow to actually make the images for the silhouettes.... I may be gone some time, as Captain Oates said ...

I'm very rich folks and I can tell you it was not so easy to earn it. Want to know how you can be rich too?
I'd be open to hearing it but I have to admit I am really sceptical of get rich schemes.I am trying to get my hands on £8000 to pay into a PPP so I can take advantage of the loop hole and get £500 free from the government.
I have tried my bank and they cant loan it to me and I have tried my credit card company who loan me enough.
I need it quickly before the loophole is closed
I dont earn a lot and the loan company I tried wants to know what I need it for and they wont loan it to me if I am going to make a profit from it.
So ..... so far I have opened a PPP with £1 and I dont know what else I can do.
You see I only need it for a few weeks so I dont have to pay any interest on it.
I would open another credit card but my credit limit would not be large enough and if i do find a loan I would be penalised for paying it off far too soon.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
So am I, it has taken me a very long time but it has been worth it.0

Go on, daffodil, tell, tell, you know you want to
and we all love a success story :j that sounds like quite a journey from your PPP post that Kaya found.
