Hi Everyone, Well yesterday was my 30th Birthday.
As far as birthdays go it wasn't my worst but that would take some beating.
I had planned to hide under the duvet all day as after everything I couldn't face it but ended up making myself get up and do something. Went for a meal with my mum and her husband and the kids so had a nice evening
More new beginnings!! Happy Birthday!Your biggest asset is TIME! I'm focused on multi-generational financial freedom.0 -
Tinktay, belated happy birthday. Glad you had a nice evening. x
Troglodyte, I've read lots of mixed reviews about Bubblews...how has your experience been? PM me your referrer's link and I'll definitely use it if I decide to join.Good point re house insurance, etc. if renting storage space. Lots to look into.
Droop, I guess you're right about needing to allow people access, that's one of my reservations. I suppose I would only want to rent space to people who are looking for a long term storage, rather than someone who might want frequent access... Someone who's moving abroad for a year or something would be ideal!I'll try and find the BBC2 programme on iplayer. Can you remember the name of it?
LL, glad the labourer is working out well! It's great when you spend money and feel it's worth every single penny.
I do like the *idea* of a homestay student (and troglodyte, you saying your friends have been able to buy two BTL properties as a result of their's is very encouraging!)...but I also like my own space... I'll certainly try and give it a go short term and see how it is.
Good luck with all your Dad's paperwork today LL. Have a good day all.0 -
Happy Belated Birthday Tink. Glad you enjoyed it in the end.
30 is a fantastic age to be - all that energy.;)
Put the last few months behind you and enjoy the rest of your life.
Embrace the future - the best is yet to come - honest.:D
Best foot forward - you can do it.
RayKay - if you put in "Booming Businesses" you should find it. My son watched the storage one yesterday afternoon on I Player so it should still be available. I also watched the Amazon one yesterday which is a later one. It's a series of 4 programmes - I think there's one more to go. (next Monday night??? for the last one).
The whole series has been very interesting and real food for thought. DS2 and I are both in agreement we need to find a couple of internet based businesses to build up a couple of extra income streams.
In the meantime given the difficulty we've had finding good plasterers DS2 has decided to do a basics plastering course so I shall research that later today. It will be another string to his bow.
For now I need to get cracking and get off to Dad's.
I've slept well, the sun is shining and I feel like an energy surge is coming on:rotfl: Feeling good and positive.
Have a great day. Onwards and Upwards…...0 -

Wow, great thread. Very motivating.
Way to go everyone who's on the challenge!0 -
Belated good wishes for your birthday Tink, and here's to a whole new stage of life!
Ray I'm enjoying Bubblews, some see it as a sort of job but for me it's just a bit of fun and getting a bit of pocket money for it is a bonus, I think it would be hard to make a lot of money on there (although some people seem to be doing well) but if you like to chat it's just like being on here only getting paid for it too! In fact if we all joined and found each other on there we could connect up there and chat and earn at the same time! This is one person's view of why you should join:

LL my partner also went on a plastering course, we got someone in to do big jobs but when we had odds and ends left (like at the bottom of the stairs, or the downstairs loo) the jobs were too small for anyone to bother with really, so it made sense for him to have a go. He isn't perfect because that takes practice, but better than nothing. I can find out where that was if that's any help?0 -
Trog -Thanks for the offer but I think we've found what we are looking for.
I went on line and found several places within just a 10 mile radius from here. All accredited bona-fide courses. I agree that doing a course is only half the picture - as you say this is definitely one area where practice makes perfect.
I've been chasing round all morning doing my dad's errands - going to have lunch and then give the colleges a ring for more details.
I think doing a course for something like plastering is well worth it. I noticed they also do courses for Heritage Plastering and Venetian Plastering - given DS1's house is listed with a lot of traditional lath and lime plasterwork this would also be useful. DS2 can do the course and then pass his knowledge on to DS1.
2 for the price of 1 - very MSE:D
Nice and sunny here so I'm going to do a little bit of "container gardening". I have a small plant nursery by the front door of my rented bungalow and I have a load of small plants and seedlings ready to pot on.
Time for lunch - I'm "Hank Marvin"…….0 -
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick one today... I keep getting asked if our 'gas engineer' runs a monthly maintenance plan like the big companies do as people are getting fed up with hidden costs etc....
now to me it seems a pretty easy (once terms and cons are in place obviously), people pay a monthly fee, the money sits in an account, if a call out happens, the money comes out of the funds.....
Obviously there would be an excess in place and various conditions i.e. if it would cost more to repair than to replace then it wouldn't be covered (much like a car in a crash)
do you think I would be mad to try and set it up or do you think its time the big boys had a rival in the shape of a girl??
I have at least 2 gas engineers at my disposal with another company with 10 engineers available if needed so I would never be without an engineer to call outtrainee millionaire (aka not there yet!)0 -
Tink - definitely time for a bit of "girl power".
There's obviously money to be made otherwise the big boys wouldn't go for that business model.
If you have good reliable people you can link with then go for it.0
