EQ! I was wondering where you were - I'm so sorry to hear your news :( Thank heavens you've got OH and her family, especially being so supportive.

And yep, they're right - nothing, nothing at all, is worth your health and your life :(

Do take care, enjoy that cuppa, enjoy the blue sky that comes your way :)

All those old jokes showing old women saying 'As long as you've got your health' - well it turns out that's not so much a joke after all. So sorry to hear of your problems EQ and I do hope you recover quickly and don't go through that again.

EQ - so very sorry to hear this. Hope you make a full and speedy recovery.

It's good that you have plenty of love and support.

You are right about stress - it can do so much damage.

Do take good care of yourself.

  • I'm doing a lot better now. Thanks for all your well wishes. I'm supposed to be avoiding stress but that is very difficult at the minute. Trying to find a cost effective (ie cheap) way to move all our belongings across to Kent from Northampton is proving very difficult.

    Hi Everyone

Just thought I'd drop by and say Hello (I'm supposed to be hovering and cleaning:rotfl:) but posting on here is much more fun.

It's been a busy few days. Dad now happily settled in his new batchelor pad, the carers bring mum to see him most days and he pops down to see her whenever so it's working well.

I have now become his bookeeper/secretary because he just can't handle paperwork any more. His stuff is in such a mess so I have rolled up my sleeves and made a start on it. It's going to take a while to sort out but hopefully if I can automate everything then once it's straight it should be easier to maintain some semblance of order.

Work going well on prop 1, exteriors just about complete so scaffolding can come down soon and then I can get cracking on the garden.

Prop 2 - works started this week on kitchen. Of course there is more work than we anticipated -there always is. It just means another month's rent on this bungalow - can't be helped.

This morning I've done a bit of a money sort out,.

It's time to watch that cash flow - it's haemorrhaging out at the moment. Time to tighten the belt - again.;)

So checked food supplies - the freezer is bulging at the seams, the fridge looks healthy and the store cupboard shelves are groaning under the weight of dry goods etc. Honestly I've got enough food here to feed a small army, not to mention an abundance of cleaning materials and toiletries.

So - apart from milk and veggies etc - no more shopping until it's all used. I'll save money and time - win-win.

My "lady wot sells for me" hasn't had much success with my stuff. Oh well I'll just have to try something else.

I need a couple more irons in the fire - will have to get my thinking cap on.

Hope you are all well and busy making lots of money.

EQ - good to see you are "on the mend". Easy does it.

I tried bagging up all the old plaster at the weekend to help my son out - damn near killed me. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. :o

My son told me off for overdoing it - he's right of course.

From now on I'll just stick to being the "tea wench". :rotfl:

I'll just have to delegate more and take a more supervisory role.

    Have a great Easter. X

    Afternoon Guys,

I'm 23 tomorrow...I can't believe how fast the last few years have gone... but planning on making the most of the next one :)

Business wise; I shut down for a week because I was doing my AAT (two exams passed out of 15 !! :) ) and on re opening it's been a bit slow but it's picking up slowly.

I have decided to give the Millionaire challenge a back seat for now ~ I am not going to swear off posting or anything but I will be here a hell of a lot less, I feel with this wedding costing us basically everything we are going to have I can't sit here and pretend I am actually working towards my goal of this challenge.. if that makes sense.

Over the next year I want to finish all AAT exams and hoping going onto mid 2015-2016 I can get myself a decent job with the qualifications.

I've come to the conclusion that my business isn't viable ~ it's to time consuming, I price up that I am making £6-7 an hour ish (bar a few one of orders) which is bare minimum wage..it's great for now whilst I am off with the kids not really doing much ~ but I am not going to get anywhere with it, yes I could grow into more products but the profit margins are so slim because their is so much competition ...this isn't the thing that's going to make me rich, that said everyone has to start somewhere and the money I make could be reinvested..I'm not closing down anyway but I am def keeping my options wide open ~ I think the question that runs in my mind is if I was to expand could I afford to hire someone else on the profit margins? and the answer is basically no.

I wish everyone luck and I am sure I will back track on this thread once in a while to keep up with everyone X

Hi Kay - Sounds like you've made a good decision there.

If your profits don't really justify the time and effort you are putting in then there's a good argument for scaling back on that particular enterprise. No point in flogging a dead horse. ;)

Anyway what with your children, your exams and a wedding to plan you probably have more than enough on your plate right now. I think sometimes you do have to take a step back and re-evaluate what you are doing from time to time.

I feel that my money making has rather plateaued too at the moment. It seems that sub-contracting out the bric a brac dealing wasn't one of my better ideas and that maybe selling and doing deals is something I just have to do myself. So I'll put that on the back burner for now.

There is a place where I might be able to get a pitch at an antiques market but it does mean committing to every week-end so I might save that for next autumn/winter. (It is indoors so not as dire as it sounds:rotfl:)

Anyway Kay - best of luck and do keep in touch…...

Kay it sounds as though you've thought it all through and made a definite plan, and decided to focus your energies on what is most worthwhile - good for you and I hope it all goes well.

LL you are progressing so rapidly I can hardly believe it; here I am just reading while you are renovating two houses in double-quick time! Shame about the selling but some things just don't work out and at least you haven't made a loss.

I've found I'm now spending a lot of time on Bubblews! I was introduced by Listerbelle and if you haven't come across it yet, it's a site where you just post about anything and if people read and like your writing, and you interact with them, you can earn a little pocket money. It's fun, you can find interesting people to chat with, and I can imagine that if you have useful and interesting things to write about in short posts you could make a few pounds. LL you could easily write a couple of daily posts about your property renovations and I'm sure people would be interested to follow your progress!

Thanks for that I'll take a look. I've always wanted to try writing but I'm not sure anyone would want to read my prattle.

I definitely couldn't write fiction so a runaway best seller is out of the question. Unfortunately.

I have been thinking about some kind of "on-line" enterprise. I can understand that there are good pickings to be had but as an old techno-phobe dinosaur I'm not sure where to start and exactly what kind of enterprise would fit the bill.

I've borrowed a couple of library books and am trying to read up and get a grip as to how these things are done. I can of course harness my sons' for their techno expertise but I do need to do a lot more research.

Like everyone else I want an enterprise that would be relatively low cost to set up to keep risk to a minimum. :o
