Hi LL, I'm sorry your dad's struggling with the move. I hope he's come to terms with it by the time the move comes.
I'm working away in the background on the trading - learning all over again that you have to take every trade that fits, because you don't know beforehand which are going to be the winners, and which the losers. Also getting to grips with the technicalities of the website upgrade - techie bits like pre-arranged rolling stops, which limit liability hugely, make things a lot more do-able. Just did a small but successful trade this morning, so thats encouraging.
Didn't manage to work on the French lease yesterday, in spite of having all day available to me - I loathe getting down to it, tho once I do its fine. Nor did I work on the cat website as I promised myself I would - I've recovered from a bad time at the weekend, though, so I'll be on it today.
I'm not dressed for my best, but at least I *am* dressed :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I've had a productive day, kids were at OH's mums so I got chance to clean house, started picking though my shoes that I have had upstairs since forever and got 10 or so of them listed and then sat down and did a few more designs which I havn't done in a while so go me. :-)
Still havn't done my research yet but my youngest has been ill ......those words:mad:....he's a lot better today anyway.
Also booked my first two AAT exams - I started it last April and the plan was to do all five exams in one go, I got though two books and started the third but then my 2nd baby came along and I started my business and I was very spilt about whether I needed to do it as the idea was to do the AAT and get a better job basically but I've decided to start it again because I have started a lot of courses and never got round to finishing them & it's something for my CV & at least I will understand how to do my books / tax better. So that's on April 10th...just have to get round to studying now...I did it a bit backwards but I work so so so much better to deadlines. :TPeople don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Hi everyone,
Sorry I've been absent for the last few months. I haven't been on MSE for a while so stopped receiving the emails telling me that someone had posted on the thread. Unfortunately my dad has been ill and my mum was recently diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer's, so I've had quite a lot on and the money-making has taken a bit of a back seat.
However, I've just caught up with everyone's progress and you all seem to be doing really well, which is fab. In contrast I'm in the same job going nowhere fast. I currently work pt (I'm a lone parent) but have started applying for full time roles as I really need to increase my income. A ft role won't be ideal though, as I'd not be able to spend as much time with DS, so I really need to work on my plans for self employment. I just need to work out exactly what first though :rotfl: .
You're all inspirational, so I'm vowing to spend much more time on here in future.0 -
Hi Kitty
No need to apologise….. sometimes life throws you a curved ball and you just have to put everything else to one side whilst you deal with the fallout.
So sorry to hear about your mum and dad.
It is so sad when we see them become ill and frail. I guess the roles reverse and we become "the parents". That is certainly how it is with my family just now.
I've had rather a trying week - certainly no time for money making.
I spent most of Tuesday with my dad and my sister sorting out my parents' forthcoming move. My dad is so confused by it all and just cannot cope. I have to go over things time and time again. He seems to understand at the time but then the next day he has forgotten everything and we are back to square one.
He refuses to accept that he has memory issues and that his cognitive abilities are failing and he becomes extremely angry, verbally lashing out at everyone, but especially at my poor long suffering sister. She adores him and is patience itself with him.
As you know a lot of my time is taken up with my OH and his care needs, consequently I've had to take a bit of a back seat and my poor sister has had to bear the brunt of it all.
Well I was so shocked on Tuesday because my sister looked dreadful. She is on the receiving end of dad's anger and she never gets a minutes peace. She is just overwhelmed. She looked tired and ill and she kept bursting into tears.
Somehow I'm just going to have to find the time to help her before she goes under as well.
So today I spent most of the morning chasing up Social Services etc. first for my dad and then for my husband.
So yes I understand that money making sometimes has to take a back seat - sometimes we just have too many other commitments, love and duty have to come first.
It's good that you are inspired by this thread. I know that I get great inspiration from others, both on this thread and in real life.
I think there are times when we all need all the inspiration we can get.
Whenever I get low or feeling like throwing in the towel I think about my late Aunty S. She was such a strong character and she was always my inspiration.
She was left a penniless widow with three children all under the age of 3. She picked herself up and soldiered on. By the time she retired she had acquired a nice little nest egg and several properties which she let out to provide her with a good income.
Whenever I feel like giving up I always ask myself what would Aunty S do.
The answer sounds ridiculous but it always worked for her and it works for me too.
Here's what she always did and it is now what I always do when life throws me a curved ball.
Aunty S was a snazzy dresser, she loved clothes and jewellery and she had the most amazing collection of hats.
Whenever she had to do something unpleasant or had a crisis to face she would put on some slap, get dolled up in her best clothes and top off her outfit with one of her amazing hats.
She would then sally forth to do battle.
As her son put it - "Mum is wearing a hat, she is going out to slay dragons".
So whenever I'm at my lowest I do the same. I get dolled up in my best dragon slaying gear.
It never fails…... I don't wear hats though.:rotfl:
Kayalana - sorry your LO is still poorly. You are doing so well with looking after your children and building your business and you still find the time to study.
You remind me of that song by Peggy Lee "I'm a woman, W-O-M-A-N, I'll sing it again…….:rotfl:"
My Aunty S would definitely approve……..;)0 -
Wow guys everyone has gone quiet I had to go back FOUR pages to find you!!
Thank you for that LL lovely compliment- studying isn't going great I worry I've taken to much to soon but I will do my best, still got time. (To be fair I have been studying when I can but the two exams I have booked are two large books and although I did them last year I naively assumed it wouldn't take that much to get back into the swing of it)
Business has gone a bit strange - I used to sell a lot of single items and this has more or less stopped. Do sell some - but a lot of listings I have havn't sold anything for a while...yet at the same time I am selling more 'bulk' orders, not loads admittedly but it's still keeping me busy. Yesterday was a rare occasion but I made £40 for what will take me 2 hours to do - the annoying thing about this is she brought something that I don't have listed and actually seeked me out as I have it listed as a single but not as bulk (the annoying part that I didn't have a listing for it I really need to get that sorted.)
Have my niece today, which actually is a blessing as she is keeping eldest entertained...I guess I'd better get my study books out
Oh and I booked me and OH's wedding for June 15
Happy days!! (Well not for the challenge as it's a lot of money for one day!!)People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -

Is this on eBay? My sales took a nosedive a couple of weeks ago as well - I think they've tweaked the search and it's giving a huge boost to free postage items, which mine aren't because I get more multiple orders than single ones. It's a tricky one.
Congratulations on the wedding date0 -
Yes same more multiple orders so not so much free postage - saying that my bulk listings are free postage...interesting theory!!
Wish they would leave things alone lol, free postage actually isn't beneficial to them anymore!
Thank you :-)People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Great that you've set a date, Kaya, that'll be lovely.
I'm plodding in the background, tho over the last few days great steps taken in pension planning, with a friend on the dfw board, and one on the mfw board with me, going "tax dark" - a loophole was recently closed, but you can still make steps towards it, which I'm doing.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Working two jobs has proved to be too much for me (hence not posting on here recently, and I have packed one of them in).
So, less cash to add to the pile each month, but no more two-hour commuting.
I got a hundred quid last month as easter bunny at a nearby school's Easter party. It was embarrassing, but it all adds up.0
