I understood that teeth whitening with more than a certain percentage of bleach HAS to be carried out by a dentist, but the newer, non bleach containing teeth whitening can be carried out by a trained, certified clinician.

My son had his done by this method and was pleased with the results. I guess the process has changed with new technology.

There is no such thing as a trained certified whitening technician. There is no nationally recognised qualification and the only "training" will have been a couple of hours by a salesperson.

It doesn't matter what chemical or process they have used if it's not a dentist (or hygienist/therapist) they have broken the law.

Your son was very lucky not to have been damaged by this illegal whitener.

From what I've gathered the original Harley Street Dental Group has been surrounded by a number of other similar sounding dentists/clinics) capitalising on the street name. A colleague thought they were booked into the official HS dentists but it turned out to be just a take on the name and not the original. They were not happy with the work done or quality of their products. Just be careful. Key advice is just avoid testimonials!
