I'm very sorry for your loss,I was unable to read your post as my best bud Orbit passed away in 2009 & it's still a painful memory. He died at home after a long illness.Getting Daisy the Fuzzlebug about 5 days later helped immensly with the grieving. As a single bloke with not much family,Orbit was (sad I know) to all intents & purposes,my family.

Thanks again for your kind words and sorry for your loss spike - it's not sad at all. Our pets are part of the family and we become very attached to them. Only animal lovers can understand the bond we have with a pet and how much pain we feel when it's time to say goodbye. It's the same grieve as losing a human especially when they have been a part of your family for so long. My Yorkie would have been 15 years old in July/August so he was a good age but still too soon for him to be taken away from me. He depended on me so much and he was my little rock when I was down, he helped me through the hard times - nothing can compare to him. I am missing him terribly and can't believe he is gone. He was by far the best thing in my life so I am taking this really hard.

I was heartbroken when my dog died last year.

I had a similar experience with my Vet, they diagnosed my dog as having a virus or stomach bug and within 6 days of becoming ill, he died.

He was fit and healthy one week, dead the next.

I still have his ashes in the kitchen on top of the blanket he used to sleep on, still haven't decided what to do with them, even after a year.

Sorry for your Loss Liam. I hope it's getting easier for you. I don't think the pain goes away, we just learn to cope with it in time.

I am so lost without my dog, I couldn't even go to the bathroom without him following. I had to be in his sight at all times or he would panick but I wouldn't of had him any other way.

I really can't understand how my vet has not mentioned Trachea Collapse to me. The emergency vet knew what was causing his coughing straight away and said it is very common in Yorkshire Terriers so this should have been mentioned to me long before now. I've googled this condition and his symptoms fit exactly to that and it is as they said a very common health condition in Yorkshire Terriers, as well as other small dogs.

The vet I seen at 4pm yesterday failed to see what this severe problem was. I should have been advised to get him put to sleep or put on oxygen as he was really struggling throughout the appointment, but instead she prescribed heart tablets and gave me false hope. My poor dog suffered and I feel so guilty for that but I done all I could do to help. I can't fault the emergency vet, they were worth the money we spent but if my vet was more helpful I wouldn't of had to take him to the emergency vet.

If you think there has been negligence by any of the vets, I would seriously consider reporting them to their professional body.

Personally I would leave it for now, but make sure you make notes of everything that has happened so you can consider what / if any action you want to take, at a better time than this.

I'm sorry to read of your loss. You may find the Blue Cross pet bereavement service which will allow you to do anything from posting a memorial on line to speaking to a trained pet bereavement volunteer of help / interest (especially if there is any subsequent disagreement between the vets over diagnosis).

In time your happy memories of times together will I hope return to the fore and replace your immediate grief but I do know how hard / unlikely it will probably seem right now.

RIP "fella" (unfortunately I don't think you've told us your boys name yet)

Thank you for your kind words and website address.

My little boy's name is Maxi. Is there a way I can upload his photo to this thread without using a photo hosting website?

I haven't tried that before so can't say for sure but did just copy a picture & see it here in the post box before submitting my post
Can you therefore open up, right click on your photo of Maxi, then copy it and paste it straight into your next post?

(I do know that you can certainly upload to the Blue cross site from your own pc without needing a photo hosting site)
