I've just logged on to Santander to find the following message:

We've improved your Online Banking service
It comes with a host of useful new features

Turn your paper statements on or off
    Manage your credit card online
Easily transfer money using Quick Transfer
Access statements from the las two years
    Send money by Faster Payments

(Notice the typo on the 2nd from last point!)

We had an email down today about this.

Big improvements coming in to online banking both for A&L and Santander customers.... had a sneak peak at some screen shots and it looks funky.

You will now be able to change address online, set to paperless statements, basically do a full self service on your accounts.

Santander credit cards will also be intergrated with your accounts under one log in.

Existing users will be given the option to upgrade from Mid-May onwards.

Security features will combine features of both A&L and Santander, including the unique phrase and picture from A&L and the OTP from Santander.

I can confirm, no annoying card readers.

Can you confirm, however, that one day they will allow you to close an Internet Account (opened on the Internet) actually on the Internet rather than (as now) requiring personal visit to a branch?

That won't be until they sell the last of the Bed and Breakfast establishments, surely? But who's going to buy B&B in this economy?

My mum always cracked me up when she inadvertently referred to them as 'National-Abbey'

The new website does not bring faster payments. Mine was changed over to the new one today, all it does is let you turn off your paper statements and view your credit card, that's about all is new.

There is also a little thing for sending them online messages

I've had my account since it was Abbey with the umbrella and I have never ever been able to send a faster payment to date.

Maybe not for your account, but I have successfully sent FPs of amounts up to £300 (to an existing payee). Anything over this limit will go by BACS.

Also, I can confirm that it is possible to send FPs of a value greater than £300, as follows:

Set up a standing order for £1 for tomorrow's date.
Once the standing order has left your account, you can then change the date and amount of the SO so that it leaves your account on the following day. For £1000, this went by FP for me.
You can then keep re-using this original standing order, just changing the date and amount each time you need it.

This is very useful for maintaining the £1k/month funding requirement without losing several days' interest on the money.

I have also been able to send a payment by faster payments today from my esaver. It was for £100 to an existing payee. I had never managed to send by FP before the website update.

Im able to do faster payments now to existing payees, but for some strange reason it won't work in google chrome, the list is just empty. It works no problem in firefox.

I don't think so. Can't see any way of adding them.
