Santander online banking upgrade - faster payments?

Options
I logged into my Santander Esaver account today and got a message saying they've upgraded the website (with new login requirements among other things), but it also suggested that I would be able to now send Faster Payments.

Anyone know what the situation is with this? I tried sending a small test payment of a few pounds out but it doesn't seem to have gone through the faster payments system - the message after the payment was made still said to allow up to 4 days for the payment to arrive...

When I log on, I get this:

"Coming Soon: In the next few months we will be enhancing your Online Banking Service. Shortly you will be upgraded to our improved service which will offer new features such as Paperless Statements, Quick Transfers between your Santander accounts and access to your Credit Card."

    Nothing about Faster Payments.

In any case, what gives you the idea that Faster payments are coming to your savings account?

Faster Payments only apply to Current Accounts.

They have had faster payments for a long time, certainly introduced during 2010 to my account. Maybe they are still moving some accounts to their new system

Did a £1000 transfer to my Lloyds TSB Vantage account yesterday, took less than 5 minutes to arrive. Mind you just tried to log into the Santandersite and its taken me over 5 minutes to do it - slow -slow, very slow; maybe they are doing some maintenance

Hmm, maybe I misinterpreted the part about Quick Transfers as talking about Faster Payments when I read it through quickly...

I'm pretty sure Faster Payments are available on many savings accounts (there's a thread about the Tesco one elsewhere in this forum for example) so was hoping Santander was introducing it on theirs, maybe wishful thinking!

Many (most?) savings account support FPs in.

A very few savings accounts also support FPs out eg Tesco, NatWest.

Inward FP to Santander A/C is often FP (not always, still hit and miss) but I never have luck with outward FP from Santander a/c

I made faster payments in to my esaver3 from my LTSB current account - small amounts it has to be said, between £2 and £200. I don't suppose faster payments out will happen when these enhancements come though.

Do you find if you stay online too long it won't let you back in for ages, but worse still it fails to warn you. For a big bank it is a really antiquated system.

Santander cant even do Faster Payments properly on their current accounts! It seems highly unlikely they will so so any time soon on savings accounts.

We had an email down today about this.

Big improvements coming in to online banking both for A&L and Santander customers.... had a sneak peak at some screen shots and it looks funky.

You will now be able to change address online, set to paperless statements, basically do a full self service on your accounts.

Santander credit cards will also be intergrated with your accounts under one log in.

Existing users will be given the option to upgrade from Mid-May onwards.

Security features will combine features of both A&L and Santander, including the unique phrase and picture from A&L and the OTP from Santander.

I can confirm, no annoying card readers.

APACS is still reporting the limit on Santander faster payments at £300 - but what do they know, they just provide the pipes.

No improvement to Faster Payments then?
