Apple wont deliver to the Isle of Wight

The point being that many companies don't deliver to places in the north of Scotland because of the cost. Since Apple appear to deliver to such places, it seems cost of delivery is not the reason they refuse to deliver to the Isle of Wight.
Apart from the fact it costs about a billion pounds to cross the Solent..."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

No problem - I just had a quick look at PC World, and they have some models in stock for home delivery (plus the possibility of 1.5% back from Quidco). According to their delivery page for small products - "We deliver to all UK addresses (including Northern Ireland). This excludes the Channel Islands. We also exclude BFPO (British Forces Post Office addresses)"0 -
I can't understand why some companies don't deliver to here (Channel Islands) either.
It's not as if they have to make any special arrangements etc - we have post, we have couriers so surely how come we can't order something from PC World - YET for a business they will deliver over here - I know as they do send stuff to my company!
The postage is not that much more, yet we get stuffed left right and centre under the term "freight" or it would cost too much to send it!
Ha! Probably just lazy and don't want to deduct the vat!
We ordered a netbook from PC World the other week - OH didn't bother to check to see if they delivered here before he ordered, but, no - he got a call from them saying that they don't deliver - which really, was good of them to call.
He has now reordered the item, which is being sent to his mum, who will then just put a new label on the box and get RM to send it over here - so what's the big deal!!!
Although, on the upside.......we have an Apple shop over here!0 -
Its probably because Apple use a courier not Royal Mail.
The courier in turn doesn't want to pay to cross to IOW ?0 -

I think this is why. A courier on the mainland will be making a drop every 10 minutes or so. A courier going to the IOW will have to pay the return fare, check in, load, wait for the ferry to embark, unload, make a few drops max on the IOW and then have to endure the return leg. It just isn't viable in terms of time and cost. The man without a signature.0 -

but why not offer it at a cost?0 -
but why not offer it at a cost?
Probably because their nominated courier simply does not want to service that part of the business. Also with the demographics of the IOW I can't see significant market.
For most IOW islanders if they really really want something then they go shopping on the mainland in Portsmouth or Southampton. The man without a signature.0 -

And you can't fly either. The IoW is subject to a NATO no fly zone on account of the plane noise upsetting the red squirrels. If you try flying, you get shot down by exocet missile."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

TBH, it's not really an option. They get laughed at too much when they go to get their money out of their wallets/purses on account of having so many fingers. Online shopping is really popular on the island (understandably so)."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
