Why do you suppose the figure is made up ?"There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."
"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".
"The Centuries that divide me shall be undone."

I think Chewmylegoffs post did make a good example of the different culture (especially at mid management level). If in the public sector it is considered someones performance is not as good as it could be, they will be offered training, counselling etc. In the private sector the more usual route is a P45 and get someone who can do the job better.0

well this what you said...
it looks like the public sector only employs "unambtious low achievers" but the private sector employs "Somebody whose ambition is to run a multinational corporation".
both public and private sector employ dross - not everyone in the private sector is ambitious and not everyone has career objectives. it's exactly the same in the public sector. saying that one employs a better class of person than the other is a bit silly.
In my experience, at it is only my experience, there are good and bad in both sectors.
I tend to find it is the people, in both private and public sector, who have been there the longest who are the ones who are less motivated and with an overwhelming sense of entitlement."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."

I never said that one employs a better class of person than the other. But I do believe that they tend to attract a different type of person. Private sector is by it's nature more risky.0 -
exactly, good post spartacus.Spartacus_Mills wrote: »In my experience, at it is only my experience, there are good and bad in both sectors.

i would add that it is probably easier to 'hide' for these 'stagnant' long term people in the public sector because there probably is less accountability than in the private sector but trying to tell us that the public sector only employs less ambitious people is stupid.0 -

You do seem to be contradicting yourself a little there, if as you say it is easier for these people to hide in the public sector, would that not encourage that type to apply to work there?0 -

and what would your cod psychological explanation be for those who work in both or move from one to the other? Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
no i'm not contradicting anything, if you actually read the post before engaging keyboard before brain you will clearly see that I say it applies to people who have been there long term and not people that apply to work there. You do seem to be contradicting yourself a little there, if as you say it is easier for these people to hide in the public sector, would that not encourage that type to apply to work there?0 -

I only know of one person who did it, they were mid grade management in the private sector and took a similar role in a council because they wanted a quiter life. eg fixed hours and much less pressure to produce results. Feedback is that every day is like a holiday but can be a little frustrating to see how much time and money is wasted.0 -

oh right so let's make a judgement based on your one anecdotal.
